there are plenty of beautiful places in italy to go for a bike ride.. but the prosecco wine region is glorious.. and late sept / early oct is a perfect time to visit. it has been a vintage year apparently, and the locals just go that little bit further than most..

Tramp Prosecco - you're my hero!
as long as we don't go down the lambrusco / lambrini route, then tramps prosecco is good for me.. -
• #16
Even I wouldn't lower myself to Lambrini and lord knows my standards are low!
So I can't really understand the website, not being italian and all that, but is this a ride open to all? The video looks beyond my skills/fitness atm but it's a whole year away and something awesome to aim for!

poots,
the prosecco region is basically rolling hillsides covered in vineyards and criss-crossed with chalk lanes like the strada bianchi. when the places for the sportive become available (usually on-line in february) we need to apply quickly. with a bit of training it is do-able and really worth seeing.long course is 122km with 1820m of climbing, and a time limit of 2hr30m after the first arrival
short course is 70km with 850m of climbing, and a time limit of 1hr30m after the first arrival
entry fee is around 50euros + commission plus 10euro for the chip each.. we would go as cycling touristslook at the route here I have travelled to these parts often on business, mostly factory trips around vicenza, verona, venice, spilimbergo in the north friuli area
The accommodation will probably be basic, but if i can get somewhere decent and close to the start town then we have ourselves a great couple of days. if you want to throw in some culture, then a trip to a vineyard for some wine tasting and sample great local food.. btw Prosecco is far superior to champagne in terms of taste and value for money. also i believe the italians produce far better quality wine than any country in europe.. there i've set out my rep..
my uncle produces a really dark red wine for home consumption, he comes from taranto, puglia.. and my aunt (mum's sister) makes limoncello delicious on pancakes with ice cream..
we is a happy family :)almac x

Tramp Prosecco - I believe this is the stuff they sell in Lidl. It's pretty bloody good for the price.

I'm not sure I've ever liked a post on this place as much as this one. It mentioned holidays! Bicycles! Fizzy wine! Delicious liquer (is limoncello a liqeur?) pancakes! ice cream! Sigh!
Seriously, I am all over this. Have been thinking about wanting to go on a slightly more challenging bicycle trip overseas for a couple of months now, sorta inspired by Jenny J's trip up the mountains and this, near my birthday (and someone else's on this thread!) could be just the thing! I'll make a roadie out of me yet!

You are, without doubt, the man with a plan.
Let me know if you need a security deposit, or any other input.
I would suggest we go with hiring a van, for the ease of transporting the bikes, and if there were any drive and ride excusions we wanted to do, as well as the main event.
