Will be there. Have't done on in ages (not been many though) will try and get people to come out for it.
-
• #4
Gareth, have you made a facebook event for it? The majority of attendees in the past have come through FB, I believe.

Here is the the permanent Facebook page for Norwich AlleyCats that I have made ...... It is my intention to have one AlleyCat each month now, so please spread the word: The more the merrier!
I have another AlleyCat as Work-In-Progress which will be ready for the 3rd week in October.

I was about to publicise my next one the same day you emailed me about yours, haha. Mine was a "back to school" theme, though, so will have to wait until next year I reckon.

p.s. this one's free, I see, but I reckon it would be good to establish small entry fees (even 50p) sooner rather than later, if they're going to be a regular thing.
-

I took onboard the earlier suggestion of a small entry fee for the AlleyCats, but thought that I would first gauge the popularity of the event before making a further commitment in this direction; especially if they are to become a regular monthly event as I would like them to become.

I'm assuming this is suitable for all types of bicycle? Not promising I'll make it, but I might.
-

The answer to that is YES. I have planned this route to suit all ages and abilities and all styles of bicycle, and have also included a couple of flat fast bits to suit the fixie and bent competitors. ..... which I was requested to do from a handful of cyclists who want to complete in AlleyCats on bents.

bent competitors.
Hahahahahahaha!

Here are the clues and tasks that I used for the AlleyCat:
Whose is the red Box at the junction of Colegate and St George's Street?
Within sight of of the main gates of Wensum park take a photograph of the artisic pile of human trash (additional clue: look next to the council litter bin).
Take a photo of the "wiggly" silver coloured metal Sustrans mile marker post on Bank Plain.
Not exactly the “Mint with the hole” but under the floodlights in Sloughbottom Park you must Tap in. The checkpoint controller is to sign below when you have completed this task.
_ _ _ _ _ _ (Bicycle Polo reference). On Marriotts way: There are no flies on this mile marker; take a photograph or (if too dark) describe this in one word. _ _ _ _ _ _
On Marriotts way: All across, but only one down; mind the steps and don’t take a dip!..... a nine letter word beginning with K and ending with E _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (glow stick marked within 2 metres
At the beginning of Marriotts way there is a large piece of sculpture made from steel; but what is on the top of it? _ _ _ _ _
By now you may have cut the Mustard, so take a photograph of the Bull in Jurnets bar.
What Stars begin with the Letter Z outside of the Norwich Playhouse? _ _ _ _ _ _.

Here are the clues and tasks to the AlleyCat, along with the control photographs that the competitors had to match.
Norwich AlleyCat 27th September 2011.
Start point: The Forum.
Checkpoint Sloughbottom Park.
Finish Jurnets bar.
Read the clues and instructions very carefully before departing: it is up to you to plan and then cycle your chosen route!

On Oak Street, where the Idols, and Statuettes face both the North and East take a photograph of the one in the first alcove on the North wall.
Take a photograph of the Mural on the wall at Wensum Lodge.
Take a photograph of the drinking water fountain at St Georges Church on Colegate.
What are the next two main productions at the Norwich Puppet theatre? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Edith Cavell. Occupation? _ _ _ _ _ Born? _ _ _ _ Died? _ _ _ _
Every body had a great time doing this AlleyCat, and I had a really good time preparing it.
The next Norwich Alleycat is on Wednesday the 26th of October, 7.15pm out side the Forum, and finish at Jurnets bar.
Norwich AlleyCat, Tuesday 27th September 7.15pm assembly for a 7.30pm start, Outside the Forum, Millennium Plain Norwich.
Please note that this Alleycat will finish at Jurnets bar, Wensum lodge, King Street, rather than the Bicycle Shop cafe.
However, there is free parking for the duration of the AlleyCat at Wensum lodge for those bringing their bicycles into Norwich by car.
Social afterwards and prize giving in Jurnets bar: drinks at SU bar prices.
Cost: Nothing, Nil, Nada, Zilch ... because it's free. Usual naff prizes, but an excellent night out in extremely good company.
Duration: about 90 minutes.
**** You will need either a digital camera or camera phone to complete this AlleyCat.****
Please note: you will need lights on your bicycle (and an additional torch will be very handy for solving the clues) as most of this AlleyCat route will be on local cycle paths and Sustrans National Network route one, but does cross and incorporate some roads.
