Shame - nice guys working there, not snooty or too 'busy' to talk to you, unlike some bike shops... I thought they'd just teamed up with Planet X as well?

What a damn shame. Many memories from this shop. It's a shame they had to move locations in the first place they had a perfect location first time around.
-
• #4
are they closing for good?
-
• #5
Closing for good, another Independent gone.
-
• #6
sad news.

How can a well liked independent bike shop not survive in london?
There is so many cyclists in the capital that there are plenty enough to pay the small premium over internet prices, and many more who will pay anything that is asked! Just look at BLB!
-
• #8
I don't actually find BLB over-priced, though it seems many do. Now some Condor prices I would consider to be at a premium. Yet I've been willing to pay those too, thanks to the sound, non-hard-selling advice I've received there. That's besides the fact that some of Condor's stuff, and not just when on sale, is very competitively priced. Both shops will have my custom again.
Sorry to hear about Bicycle Magic, it would be instructive to know why their business plan failed.

I really like that shop. I purchased my Koga track frame from there at a great discount as someone in the shop dropped it and dented it.
Such a shame it is closing down :( -

Really sad news. They are an excellent outfit!
Who will fix my attempts to build bikes now? F**********ck!

How can a well liked independent bike shop not survive in london?
I guess because for all the big chat on that there internets people dont really use local bike shops for their parts needs and would rather get it for cheap from eBay or CRC foregoing the personal touch, exceptional advice, and light piss-taking they can expect from the LBS.
-
• #12
Probably spot on with that, I used to get all my parts from a mates shop due to the "chatting time" that accompanied the purchase, but then he left and now I buy 99% of my parts online.
-
• #13
real shame. I don't want to feel like a vulture though.
-
• #14
Oh no, used to live 20 secs from there. Loved that shop, always able to find time to fix my little problems there and then. Must pop in to do some shopping this weekend.
-
• #15
I went in there once for some lube a few years ago and the guy in there said "eurgh, why do you have one of those fixie bikes? they're so stupid."
I reckon this is karma.
Might just have been my bike though; it is pretty stupid.
-
• #16
I loved this shop.
:(
-
• #17
but they were wrong about your fixiebix, bendix. WROG}NG!
-
• #18

-
• #19
I hear FixieBix is going to be Chris Hoy's next venture with Kellogs.
-
• #20
heh

• #21
So what is happening with Planet X? Weren't they using Bicycle Magic as their London showroom or something?
I should really know this, I work around the corner, but I go to CycleSurgery when I'm at work and I need a bike shop because they give me more free stuff. shame
-
• #22
Real shame, I have been using these guys off and on for years now...
-
• #23
real shame. I don't want to feel like a vulture though.
I think they would appreciate your custom tbh.
I go to CycleSurgery when I'm at work and I need a bike shop because they give me more free stuff. shame
So its your fault?
Apparently they are open 10-early afternoon tomo so if you are taking your bike for a walk along London's infamous dogging hot-spot 'Brick Lane' pop in and say au revoir.
-
• #24
Damn, what nice people they were.
The Whitechapel shop was much more poky than Aldgate.
-
• #25
damn they were the only place i could get spare ortleib clips, couldnt find em anywhere else in london, might check it out tmw
Not sure if this is the wrong place to mention it but I have been told that Whitechapel's favourite friendly bike shop Bicycle Magic is closing down and bikes and parts will be going, going gone.
Greatorex street, E1, open Saturday and Sunday, my sincerest apologies if this is against 'the rules' but thought it could be in the interests of some.
