  • With the correct tools.

  • Where are you? If you're local to me (W6) I'll do it for you for a pint.

  • Hey,

Thanks for for the offer, Its for a mate and we are E8 though.

    What are the correct tools?

I lent him a chain ring tool and he has a big spanner for the other side, is that what we need?

    Cheers

  • You need a Bottom Bracket lock-ring spanner to remove the lock-ring side. You could take it to the Hackney bike workshop thing - http://www.lfgss.com/thread70581.html#post2346844 they've got the bits, and it's on tonight.

  • Pic DSC_0004 how do i get the bit under the lock ring off? Ive gotten that far before and then couldnt figure out how to get the BB out....Will the workshop do all of this?

  • The lock ring will come off anti-clockwise with a c-spanner which is often included with shitty puncture repair kits. You can often remove and set the left cup by hand.

Always check on Sheldon Brown to see what type of BB you have (English, Italian, Swiss, French thread) as this will determine the direction of the thread too.

For the right hand cup, I just use a big-bastard adjustable spanner.

  • Is the right hand cup clockwise or anti?

  • if all else fails use the sheldon bodge tool.
See the 'seized BB' thread in mechanics forum. With a big breaker bar you will get any BB out no worries ;)
