People will probably recomend Sidis, But I'd say you need to consider your foot shape to narrow it down to a couple brands (the fit varies loads). Then decide how much walking you'll be doing in them, and consider your commute length. To decide the amount of stiffness needed.

I had some shimano lace up jobbies that were goodman to walk in, sub 45 quid, also had some more shimano ones that are more mtb style and were about 35 quid, both really comfy :D

Try shoes on. Buy the best fitting ones you can afford. End of.

Specialized are usually pretty good for wide feet. Shimano, not so much. Haven't owned Newwave.

Northwave rock. I have a couple pairs of their aerlites and they fit my wide feet brilliantly. Nice roomy toe box, and a wide last. I like the SBS rachet system a lot too. I can adjust the fit a single click either way while still riding, even fixed (counts as a trick for me). Specialized are another option. Both do decent budget options.

ive used specialized tahoe's in the past and they tend to be a close fit for me so thats what ill reccomend.
also they are a reasonable price too!

Cheers! I know I should try them on, but these Muddy Fox shoes are so damn cheap for commuting that I was going to take a punt. Will have a look at the other recomms. I've tried on some Sidi road shoes before but they're pretty pricey.

If Sidis fit then maybe diadora will. They always seem to be on offer somewhere.

I have these Shimano M183s:

They're very good.

Specialized Expert Carbons here. Tried some on at Condor then googled and bought the 2010 versions for about £50 less as it was my first pair of clipless shoes.
They don't look as good as the new ones, but I think the footbed is the same. Either way, they're stiff and super comfy to walk in. Tried these and Sidi Dominators, and these were comfier for me.

More wide feet here. I find Mavic shoes work for me.

mmcarthy, those Shimano M183s seem to have a soccer stud/cleat at the toe! How extreme is your commute?
I find Shimanos very narrow. Bontrager makes the fitment of the SPD cleat really difficult - I've nearly sliced a finger off in the process. If you have a wide foot, I'd say Specialized - never tried the Muddy Foxes though.

Anyone seen those Lake winter boots anywhere for good price?

If you mean the proper hardcore ones. I might have a link at work. They won a winter cycling shoe shoot out, on the biggest norwegian MTB site. So must be half decent in the cold.
I had some leather Lake commuters last several harsh winters. So I like the brand and would like some of these at some point -

They also do these less hardcore ones.

44 sadly- I'd seen that and chuckled over the "dogs danglies" text.
I'm fed up with having corpse feet in the winter, so was tempted by the full on winter boots.
Gustav had the second ones you linked to and said that they are not waterproof, which has struck them from the list.
I'm looking at picking up some cheap mtb spd shoes for commuting. These Muddy Fox shoes seem to be the cheapest out there, but there isn't a single review available. Has anyone tried them? Any good? Or an alternatives to recommend?
Cheers
