Volunteers wanted for tandem ballet

  • Not quite sure where this fits into the forum, so I'll just pop it in General. This has just been sent round work, but I thought that some of you might be interested, and I think that they're looking for people from anywhere, anyhow, details below:

Bicycle Ballet (www.bicycleballet.co.uk) is looking for dance/ cycle volunteers to help research a new project involving blind or visually impaired people and to be choreographed by Virginia Farman. They are looking for:
    · 6-8 tandem front riders to work closely with the back rider who will be blind or visually impaired.
    · Dancer participants will receive visual awareness training, and additional training in the practicalities and physicality of working with movement and the visually impaired or blind, and some training to be a tandem front rider.
    · Student or trained dancers who are enthusiastic, patient and interested in working with us to develop initial choreographic ideas for this project
    · The ability to be supportive and willingness to develop a close working relationship with your blind or visually impaired partner
    · Dancers will need to be CRB checked
    · A key element is the need to balance front and back riders, so some selection may be required.
Meeting for three hours every week for a six week period, they will explore together, and with music, the possibilities of moving through the workshop space on, over and around the tandems.
Working with up to three pieces of music, participants will work with their partners and the choreographer to explore a range of ideas around participants’ experiences of cycling, for example, of the top of my head: freedom, independence, fear of falling off, traffic, learning to ride etc etc.
At the end of the final week, there will be a showing and celebration of the work created, with audio description.
The aim of this research and development project, is to explore the potential of the idea for the Tandem Ballet and the possibilities of working with blind and visually impaired participants and dancers on tandems.
The future potential of the R&D is to enable us to work with blind and visually impaired participants, as part of our existing mass participatory Bicycle Ballet project, and/or to create a larger-scale project based on this initial work.
We are also aiming to showcase the enthusiasm, sense of adventure, fun and exploration of blind and partially sighted people, and to expand horizons, develop confidence and expression, and to raise awareness of the freedom and wonder of both cycling and dance.
If you are interested in volunteering or just finding out more please contact Karen Poley on 07909 976910 or karen.poley@yahoo.co.uk

    ---EDIT---

I should make it clear that I've nothing to do with this, but thought that some people here might find this interesting.
