Just to sneak in before the UTFS haters chip in - White Lightning Clean Ride. Wax lube, old dirty stuff just falls off, comes off clean in hot water. Very easy to keep a clean gunk-free chain.

For a new chain, I'd put nothing on. Later, either wet or dry. Just dry off the outer after applying. Sheldon's write-up is worth reading.

Some people use wet lube all the time, regardless of whether it's their 'sunday bike', I think overall it is smoother, but can be more damaging...

What you use to lube it doesn't matter so long as you clean it properly.

If It's a new chain I wouldn't really worry for the moment. Once you've rode it for a while just stick either lube on it.
Just about to lube up a drive chain on a geared bike for the first time.
Always used finish line wet on my fixed wheel, but I do have the dry lube too.
Recommendations on which I should go with, considering this will never see rain...
