• Hi, just brought a sweet TT frame with semi vert drops. I have set it up as fixed with a half link chain and it seems to be fine but I cant get the rear wheel properly aligned at both the top of the chain stays and the bottom. Am worried about the torque stress on the frame or the wheel as a result. It seems fine to ride, but been thinking it would be best to set it up properly as geared and start a new fixed build. Any advice?

  • what do you mean top of the chain stays and the bottom?
to align my wheel, i pull it back in the drops as far as i can on the drive side (the tyre touching the chainstay) and tighten the nut, then just push the wheel to the straight position and tighten the non drive side, which also gives you very good chain tension.

otherwise, not completely sure what you are asking

  • you are probaly using a 120mm wheel and trying to fit it in a 127mm gap or the original wheel for the TT bike would have been dished with gears while a fixed gear wheel is symetrical thus to line up the centre of the tyre with the centre of the brake bridge might be difficult.

i think and don't quote me on this but the rear i think maybe slight asymetric on road / tt bikes while track bikes the rear triangle is symetrical

ask mdcc tester he would definately know this

  • nice one dicki, what you are saying makes good sense, looking at the positioning of the rear brake hole it is slightly off centre. and i have had to pull the stays in more than usual to secure the back wheel. still worried bout torque/ tension even though it rides fine, will look up mdcc tester to see if he can help further. thanks for the comment.
