  • WfW urgently needs £10,500 for flat track at Herne Hill Velodrome so disabled cyclists can be part of cycling hub. Can you help?

As some of you are already aware, WfW have been working with HHV to 'move home' there.
We have been involved with the planning process and we only saw the final plans (which keep changing) this week. We need a 5m flat track to run on the inside of the banked track which will allow us to run fully accessible sessions for disabled people, some of which ride on side-by-side tandems which are over 1.5m in width.
Currently, they have a 4m track in the designs and whilst it is possible to extend it by another metre, it will cost an additional £10.5K and they simply don't have the money in the budget to do this.
They start work on it NEXT WEEK and they need to know by MONDAY if we can fundraise the additional money.

So, can you, as an individual help? If so, you can donate directly through our website - www.wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk (click on the donate now button at the bottom of the homepage) or through our justgiving site - http://www.justgiving.com/wheelsforwellbeing.
Alternatively, if you have any contacts in the business that can help us, please let us know (contact us via the WfW website). Do you know of any charitable trusts that we could tap in to? Any info (and of course donations!) would be great and will make all the difference.
Thanks everyone for your support, once again.
    Heather - WfW Manager

  • this^ far more important than a multi million pound architects folly plonked next to a community cycling facility.

  • Team London has some sports facilities development grants.

BLF will fund your specific project area as its about the inclusion of people rather than riding around in circles for the sake of riding around in circles.

I'll dig out my list of sports funders this afternoon - unless you have access to Trust Funding?

Indeed! In fact, with our current site at Brockwell Park being re-developed in the near future we run the risk of not being able to operate in this area, so we really need to move to HHV.
That coupled with the fact that at our current site we've had an arson attack and 2 break-ins in the past 18 months.

  • I don't have access to Trust Funding - that would be awesome!
We're already BLF under their 'Strengthening Communities' fund - are they likely to fund separately for this too?

  • Donated.

Partly because it grates to fuck that this wasn't part and parcel of the whole regeneration.

    Thanks sooooo much!

  • Donated. Hope you can get there in time!

Reaching Communities is the one for you... they'll fund you for as many projects as you can manage.

  • a director of Rapha has just opened a business up in Herne Hill (on Milkwood Road) and has upset the neighbours, maybe try them too for some corporate money?

    Is that Bon Velo?

  • Donated. Hope you can raise the total in time!

    Thank you!!!

  • Nope, it's Deliverance:

Spencer Skinner, Spencer@deliverance.co.uk. In fact, it may be that he's a director with a fellow Rapha director: details here: http://www.hernehillforum.org.uk/community_forum/35/2348

  • But that forum has a few HHV supporters on it too, so might be worth appealing there.

Awesome - done both - thanks!

  • lunchtime bump

  • Another way to donate - Text WFWV01 to 70070 via Just Giving. There are NO CHARGES to us for this (meaning they don't take their usual cut of donations). You can also still Gift Aid the donation by replying to a text they send out after your pledge.

You can also follow us on Twitter @WfWNews

Well, I had to email the hh forum to ask their permission as it may be deemed as advertising and that's not allowed on there. Waiting for a reply. But have emailed Spencer.

  • Donated. Good luck!

  • Donated. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that my gratitude, if paid for in beer, would bankrupt me! Thanks so much Dan.

  • Don't worry H, I'm a total lightweight...

Seriously, no biggie. Come on people...dig deep for a really worthy cause.

  • Donated :)

  • So I've done a Trust Fundraising search - came up with a fair few UK trusts that will fund capital works, based around disability, and sport.

However, I'm not sure Trusts and Foundations are swift enough to respond in the time frame that you need. I can't export the list, but could take some screen grabs?

  • Thanks again for all your help guys. Sorry been offline for a little while!
Chris - thanks for you message. If you could send to heather@wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk, that would be awesome.
