"James Jones, 27, had just been telling friends how his new, £500 bike had revolutionised his life when he watched it being taken away"
*"The picture has become an internet sensation since the incident at 8pm on Saturday. By yesterday it had been viewed by more than 30,000 people including comedians Danny Baker and Rufus Hound and the newscaster John Snow"*

So let me get this right as I am having trouble understanding this.
A guy buys a new bike and locks it to some railings via the seatpost. He then watches a couple of chavs steal it, whilst someone has time to get their phone out and take pictures, but not enough time to walk over and kick their heads in? Am I the idiot here or is there something wrong with this scenario?
When they are caught, they will no doubt claim that someone borrowed their faces, unbeknownst to them and returned them before they realised they were missing

Hang on, the indy article suggests that the bike was retrieved, just that the thieves wandered off without getting a shoeing or caught by the fuzz.

It was definitely nicked. The guy is on Twitter, and actually just said he got it back: https://twitter.com/#!/rjamesjones/status/90777033591881728

This guy is one of best friends. No joke. First class degree in Russian and he can't lock a bike up.

In Soviet Russia, bike locks lock? :)

@ Winch25. Probably because the theft didn't take place in a parallel world where Charles Bronson is Emperor.

I suspect that in Soviet Russia, bike locks were unnecessary as the police would steal the bikes whether locked or not.
Been on holiday and see there was a lot of media attention to a bike theft in North London: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/victim-turns-to-twitter-in-bid-to-track-down-bike-thieves-2306987.html
Is it just me, or has the bike been locked through the seat post?!
SORRY IF A REPOST (but I did try searching)
