^ UTFS and welcome to the fukken forums.
Also they have bike shop staff for this sort of thing. go to your prefered manchester bike shop, buy a kryptonite or abus D lock and a cheap cable mainly to keep your other wheel secure.

Cheers guys (well most of you) I actually had a long look at that thread before I posted this I was just wondering which shops stocked which models to save me having to call every shop asking if they had specific models. I thought some of you might know where I Gould get a good lock in town bought from the shop not online.

I constantly hear shop staff giving bad security advice and selling anything they have. I got really annoyed with one yesterday in a popular chain store who was useless with a customer and had obviously never locked a bike up in his life.

big stores don't always always train their people about bike security and some who work there obviously don't know a great deal about bikes.
most cable locks can be snipped in a few seconds .
any D lock should be at least 16mm shackle . fill the space with as much bike as possible. stops bottle jacks
same applies for the chain which should have links which have a diametre of 16mm.
keep the chain of the ground.most chains in bike shops are not 16mm diametre as the weight is simply tooo heavy.

Tools to kill a D lock:
Jack
Tools to kill a cable/chain lock:
big cutters.
Chances of a robber carrying both are slim as they're both bulky tools, so use one of each type.

Not really 100% correct. Not like all D locks can be levered open, or are impossible to cut. Not like cutters are the only thing that can break a cable or chain.
Using both is a good idea though, D lock can fit will around rear wheel and seat tube and a cheap cable for the front wheen and downtube. Also if youre in a spot where you cant fit a D lock you can use the cable.

Fahgettaboudit Mini + cable but they are FUCKING HEAVY.
Alright guys what's a good lock I can get tomorrow? Price range 40 - 60. I quite like the heavy duty chain type.
