Awesome, on my way down now with a hacksaw. Let's see what I can do.
-
• #3
Let me know how you get on. The Rauler looks sweet! Do speak to the manager first though.
-
• #4
The Rauler has been there for months, slowly getting picked over. I think it had the front wheel taken, then gradually everything else went.
-
• #5
What do you need to break an Abus D lock?
-
• #6
head down brick lane on a sunday morning head up sclater street and ask most of the scrotes that hang around the street corner with dodgy looking £99.99 mtb's on sale
they've been doing it for years they must know -
• #7
Feels weird suggesting people do this but they were literally saying that they were going to bin them. It hadn't even occurred to them that these things might be considered useful or valuable to someone.

Singspeed if you free the Rauler I'd be keen to trade for a 61cm bike or a coupla cans - one's a better deal but the other may be more useful to you ;) If you don't free it then let me know, I will have a crack at it.
Been looking for a super-budget frame that size for awhile now!
-
• #9
FYI I didn't measure the frame. Just took a guess by looking at it.
-
• #10
Haha cool, will bear it in mind. Tbh would settle for the rear wheel being 700c, anything counts at the end of the academic year...
Thanks for flagging this up Wrongcog! Repped.

• #11
If someone could please cut one free and then post it to sweden for me, that would be great, thanks
-
• #12
Can they(Sainsburys) do this?
-
• #13
I guess that the racks they're locked to are on private (sainsburys) property, so probably yes, they can dispose of stuff that's (essentially) been dumped in their front yard.
-
• #14
Got there to find some lfgssers trying to free it. Loads of Hacksaw marks on chain and lock but no one has managed to break the chain yet. Excellent bit of promotion for Abus chains. Im going to buy one now.

use irwin 42 bolt croppers , such a breeze.
However beyond the average bike rescuer

I tried to go through the Abus with a hacksaw the day this was posted.
The good news was that 2 people came over and asked me what I was doing immediately (one then went to get the security guard but I'd already cleared it with the managers).
Bad news (for me) was I couldn't even scratch the thing.
Does this thread open up a goldmine of scavenging as supermarkets all over the country must have abandoned bikes outside? -
• #17
So is the removal of bikes ok if you have permission from the private land owners? (in this case Sainsburys) I remember reading the abandoned bikes thread a while back
http://www.lfgss.com/thread404-6.html
Gaining the permission of anyone to re-appropriate ownership or property which is not theirs to give away is called theft (Even if you do earn gutter rent working as an "honest barman" in one of this cities fine establishments).
(not my belief or opinion, just remember reading this and it sounding serious] -

so how come the little toe rags can steal bikes in 20 seconds
and 30 minute concerted effort by our finest couldn't liberate even one bike
shameful
don't any of you ^^ think of bike theft-ery as a career -
• #19
ha!

• #20
how's life outside london rik ? enjoying your new city ?
-
• #21
yep, all good so far.
lots of bikes rusting everywhere, and no one seen to pay attencion to them -
• #22
I hate it when I see a Dave Yates or similar high quality frames chained up, completely uncared for, probably bought from gumtree for 50 quid, and the owner has no idea what they're riding.

Even this cant take a 16mm diametre chain

Any luck? My friend and I saw those frames at Whitechapel Sainsburys recently and had exactly the same idea, nearly asked to talk to the manager about it too but never got around to it.
If nobody has managed to liberate them yet we might get our tools and head down tomorrow.

Yeah has anyone got any of these yet?
Linky to the stolen bikes thread. Permission granted by Sainsubury's Whitechapel to liberate a couple of unwanted frames:
