  • Seems Greenpeace have climbed up Old Street roundabout to protest against VW lobbying against CO2 cut proposals in Europe. So VW want people to drive more.
    http://www.vwdarkside.com/en

The commute today should be fun

  • joined the rebellion (this is armchair activism at its highest)(but it worked to an extent against the sell off of forestry so cant be bad)

  • Those hitlers!

  • that's not a beautifully set out website.

  • that's not a beautifully set out website.

I dont think greenpeace have a web dev team ..not bad considering

  • Eh? International lobbying group, and you reckon they don't spend hundreds of thousands on IT Infrastructure, marketing and so on?

  • that's not a beautifully set out website.

    Derail troll?

  • Go Greenpeace, I might have to go and see if they're still there ...

  • So VW want people to drive more.

The website claims that VW has an ability to produce radically lower emisission vehicles, but still stubbornly pushes the higher emisission ones to the innocent public. If that's true, then VW want the people to drive less for given amount of fuel.

  • Not looked at the website, but has Greenpeace substantiated these claims at all?

VW have produced a BlueMotion vehicle in most of their ranges, which is an extremely low emission vehicle- class leading, usually, but it's up to the punter to choose it over the others in the range.

  • Greenpeace fail? From various sources:
"today [the Foundry's] the setting for a VW ad..."
"Stormtroopers on Old St this morning, too bad no-one knows whether Greenpeace or Volkswagen are behind it"
"Imperial Storm Troopers stopping traffic and peds in the Shoreditch/Dagoban system. Some V dub promotion."
"Saw this earlier, can't stop humming the Imperial March now."

  • Looked at the website, only 6% of vehicles sold were its most efficient models.

That suggests that only 6% of the vehicle buying public wanted them.

VW, being a commercial organisation, would (just a guess here) be happy to sell 100% of people it's most economical varients, as long as margins were the same across the portfolio.

  • Just looked at the website and billboard and it does not take degree in marketing to show that this is a VW sponsored campaign promoting their environmental credentials rather than the other way round...

Increased sales of the lowest co2 class (read small) would mean increase in second car segment, city dwellers formerly using transit segment. Which means advance in private auto-mobility. If blue motion Polo wont do that, we have to wait for a more budget, cooler and green (or washed) alternative. Imagine equivalent of electric Tata Nano made by some inherently cool corporation like Apple or Google.

We suburban soccer dads will continue to get the big ship to haul all our suburban stuff.

  • Yes. In the 70s, the slogan was that smaller cars would resolve congestion and reduce pollution, which was all complete hogwash. People bought more cars per household and every single problem except for traffic casualties got worse. 'Low emission' vehicles will only lead to more market penetration for closed private carriages and increase hypermobility.

  • So, your policy is that people should simply stay at home?

I think that would play well with quite large sections of society.

    ^ that's an interesting point

Also don't really get why stormtroopers are promoting the rebellion? I'd prefer ewoks

There's something in this suggestion though the person giving out flyers near the stormtrooper had some really harsh words about VW. I took some pics and video so will post later

Why do you turn in to another person whenever cars are discussed?

  • because he drives a volvo

Since the UK Greenpeace sites are heavily promoting this campaign I find it hard to believe that it's a sneaky PR move by VW.

What? They cause more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermobility? Are you entirely sure?

  • but what about licensing? VW obviously has a global license deal with Star Wars™ (or Lucas Films I guess) so why would Star Wars™ license it out to greenpeace as well?

I really don't think an organisation as big and serious as Greenpeace would do it without a license so either Star Wars™ or VW will be quite pissed off for the use of the graphics

  • Why do you turn in to another person whenever cars are discussed?

    Explain?

  • Why do you turn in to another person whenever cars are discussed?

I think there's a problem with his steering.
