Bottom bracket advice

i need some bottom bracket advice

i wanted to upgrade it to a nice new sealed bb my shell is 68mm but the old spindle is 140 mm would a 68mm x 110 bb fit or should i opt for the 126 ?? i was also goig to buy a new chain set as the old one was a cottered double chainring im using the inside 39t chainring at preset which seems to give a nice chain line its just clearance/chain line issues im worried about =S

The length of the BB spindle depends on your cranks. So buy the cranks then get the BB. Or buy them both at the same time. Theres a fair few listings on the internet showing which length BB for each crankset.

A singlespeed crank is going to look nicer but an mtb crank would also work .

You probably know this, but older Raleigh bikes can have non-standard Raleigh threads on the headset and bottom bracket.
