  • Beautiful classic Tour De France Eddy Merckx road frame, size as mentioned in title is 58cm, and the rear drop outs are 130mm. Its in a lovely metallic blue with various decals on the frame. Some age related marks and chips, couple on the cross bar, some along the chain side of the rear fork, would touch up. Some of the transfers slightly deteriorated but overall a very nice frame indeed. Comes fitted with Sugino BB, and a headset. Looking for about £200 for this frame, but I am open to serious offers. Dibs followed by PM.

    Thanks for looking, Rooky

  • This will go POP!

  • no way thats worth 200 beans

  • That is a Falcon Merckx right?

  • £25 at a push

  • Come on...

£30 at least, looks like NOS to me

  • no way thats worth 200 beans

    ?

  • le sigh

  • Price drop: £160 !

  • keep dropping

  • "..ooh,ooh, it's got Merckx on the frame, it must be worth a shitload."
Do some research rookyboxer, there are Merckx frames then there are MERCKX frames.

  • This is a Freddy Merckx

  • Why do people on this forum feel the need to mock and have a go at people who might not have as much knowledge about the cycling world as others, instead of being a complete belled towards me why not offer me some helpful advice about the bike and give me some serous feedback Instead of putting me down!

  • how much did you pick this up for? not alot? and you're trying to turn a ridiculous profit on it?

    am i right?

the frame is a falcon, not a merckx... don't know what it's worth, probably about the same as a gas pipe pug. so not alot.

when asking £200 for a road frame, maybe you should do some more research or know what *you *are selling?!

  • Falcon licensed the Eddy Merckx name in the 1970s, before Merckx started his own bike company, and used it on a range of cheap racing bikes for kids. They are made from cheap tubing and are worth buttons.

This frame, with mudguard eyelets and a mount for a light bracket, is definitely one of them and isn't worth more than £30 or so I'm afraid.

Because people don't like having their intelligence insulted by someone trying to sell a gaspipe frame for an exorbitant price...

Plus if you can't really spell bellend, then I'd use a simpler insult.

    Serious advice

    It's worth about £40-50...

  • many riders in the 1970s used light brackets and mudguards, but they were mostly 12 year old merckx wannabees .......

  • Let me first say thanks for the advise but I still find it ridiculous that people have to be this way, yeah ok I don't know that much about the frame but please don't sit there and be little me, ok so I listed the bike too high but just tell me instead of satisfing your snob inerself!

  • i'd be embarrassed to ride this around, It'd be like driving a MG midget with a Ferrari badge on it!

  • answer my question, how much did you pick this up for?

don't expect sympathy back after thinking you'd struck gold and getting it wrong...

you had a pretty easy ride really. the suggestions of £30 were closer to an actual value than yours...

  • Have a look at what's on offer here,

It is similar to your frame but this one was made under licence by Dangre STARNORD in France.

They weigh a ton and are not built to a particularly high quality purely because they were made as cheap bikes for the masses and were sold in supermarkets.

I dont feel anyone has been particularly harsh to you considering you are trying to sell a frame for a hell of a lot of money!
( I saw a '09 carbon planet x foad frame go on ebay for £200 last week)

If you think we are being unfair because you paid a lot for the frame I suggest you take it off here and put it on gumtree.

Here are some other supermarket merckx frames like yours

  • Tbh I wasn't ever expecting to get 200 for the frame it was mearly a starting point I'm not stupid enough to think I'm going to score a big win with this frame I'm obviously just miss informed about what it is I have baught! I'm not going to answer your question malaysian because I'm not here to take the piss out of people or cause an argument, the whole idea of a forum I thought was to share ideas and get information. Okay so I've perhaps gone the wrong way about it by not asking enough people what it's worth but at the end of the day I'm fairly new to the world of cycling and so I'm bound to make some mistakes. Thanks to everyone who has given me some useful info!

I'm also new to cycling and all that, but surely common sense is to do as much research and the like on ANYTHING you sell?
And the £200 was a starting point bit you replied with is quite honestly a piss poor excuse, i want £10 for my £5 note, but thats a starting point.
The lesson you should take from this is A, research and know what you are selling or B use ebay.
