I've just used old doors on saw horses.
Pretty solid, cheap.

Not a bad idea. Where do you get cheap saw horses?

Ooh a furniture thread, good call! Why didn't we have one of these already?

Look up 'metal desk' in ebay - antique furniture.
Some awesome stuff for fairly reasonable prices.

Either Wickes/similar, or make your own out of 2X2's?

I want to build one of these very soon:
'Multi Ply Coffee' Table by Daniel Eatock
Cut from and using a whole, single, standard-sized sheet of plywood.
"Constructed from a single 24mm thick four by eight plywood sheet. The diagram illustrates how the 24mm four by eight sheet is divided and cut into a total of 72 pieces, (4 leg pieces / 48 short slats / 20 long slats). The cutting width of all slats including the leg pieces is 48mm minus the width of the saw blade cuts. The slats cut from the material salvaged from inside the four U shaped leg sections is cut in half. All slats are turned on edge and glued together on the veneered face, the short slats are aligned to the outer edge of the table creating a hole in the centre that equals the same volume as the four legs. The finished table is 10.2 lbs lighter than the full sheet of material."

All I can think of is the stuff that will fall through the slot :P

All I can think of is the number of times I would have to start again after making mistakes when cutting the wood!

The guy may be able to deliver the table... And there's a matching pair, not that I have anywhere to put the other.

Just managed to get an Eames replica lounger through Groupon. First time I've used the site.
Anyone know where I can get a nice, big, solid desk? Don't mind if it's slightly industrial, just don't want MDF crap.
