Some campagnolo ergolever fixing help please

Posted on
  • Good forum folk,

I've recently got a pair of campagnolo ergolevers (veloces) for my 1st build, and the left one is a bit broken. Naturally, I'm wondering how to fix them (unfortunately not much luck on forum search/google).

The left hand one had the plastic gear changing lever broken, but the stubby bit that's left still clicks.

So my question is, how do you fix them (I'm guessing there's a youtube video somewhere), where can you buy the parts. Failing that does anyone know who can fix them and for how much.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Veloce is a pretty entry level groupset so I think the chances of them being serviceable or of you getting parts would be slim.

  • Try asking scherrit aka http://www.thebikewhisperer.co.uk/ - He does ergo lever servicing...

Totally wrong. All ergo levers can be fully disassembled, parts changed and re-assembled.

If you're feeling brave you can do it yourself with the help of the following resources:-

You haven't said what speed your levers are or whether they are the older 'Escape' type or the newer 'Power shift' type, so I've put links to both

there's probably one for power shift levers somewhere.

This page on the campag website has spare parts diagrams - once you've identified which bits you need you can get the code and order from somewhere like Condor Cycles or Mercian

If you want someone to do it for you then Bike Whisperer, I believe Mercian also service them as well

  • hi nodachi,

have a look at this link > http://www.nuttycyclist.co.uk/cycling/ergo-rebuild.htm < although for a right lever the left lever isn't dissimilar

    plus campyonly > http://www.campyonly.com/howto/ergo_rebuild.html

parts are available from > http://www.italiancycleproducts.co.uk/

  • I guess one of the reasons for doing your own build is that sense of adventure, so am very happy to rebuild my levers. My levers are Veloce 10sp, and I'm guessing they're around 2-3 years old.

    Thanks for the links!

  • Print out a (preferably) A3 exploded diagram from the Campagnolo website.

There are also PDF guides on servicing.

Once you understand the principle of operation (it's essentially just a barrel which is ratcheted which you push back and forth), then it's not too difficult.

I stripped mine in degreaser and then used Weldtite Teflon grease, particularly around the G-springs.

  • Apparantly Mercian have a good stock of Campag spares: http://www.mercianblog.com/2008/07/ergo-spares.html

Came across this when looking at broken ergo's on ebay recently. Probably your ones!

  • Cheers @rodabod, just wondering where you got the parts from? I visited Condor yesterday who said the part is going to be £30, which I think is a tad steep for a plastic blade.

Was considering getting another LH mirage one off ebay and using that for parts, or just using that one come to think of it, as the LH only has to shift the front derailleur.

  • I just fixed mine using Araldite, IIRC.

Can you check if this is the right part? You'll need to reference the parts diagram for your model.

I have a 10% off code which I can give you to use (PM me).

  • Cheers! Will check out which type of Veloce shifter I have.

  • Yep... I've no idea how to tell what type of shifter mine is. It just says QS on the front of the hood! The best answer I can find is Road Bike, Cycling Forums but even then it doesn't say how to tell them apart.

  • Lazy question as I'm going to find out one way or the other soon enough but:

I am about to swap a set of Stealth Pro Evo bars on one of my bikes (to a different size). The bars have internal cable routing tubes underneath.

Will I need to renew the inner cables to do this? I am guessing I will need to snip the old crimps off and pull the inners out completely but have never worked on brakes / shifters before.

  • Now answered. Luckily I had new cables 'lying around'.

  • JD Whisker in Welwyn Garden City is worth a call for spares. If they do not stock it then they will advise.
