• I'm almost finished with my parts-gathering after about 6 months of being very fussy. Now to build it.

Problem is I need to prepare the frame threads etc, and I really want to learn while I'm doing it so I'd like to do every single bit myself rather than resigning to the local bike shop.

I need to do the following:

    -Chase/face BB shell
    -Prepare headset etc
    -Choose a good quality grease

    Any suggestions/reccomendations?

    Cheers!

look there for tools, but the amount you will spend doing those things yourself (reaming headtube, facing BB etc) will eclipse the amount that a shop will do it for..

maybe someone on here has the tools and will lend you them?
(sorry if this doesn't answer your question)

  • You'll need expensive tools to do some of what you want.

Contact Retro di Corsa and ask to watch.

  • Able to help and provide a 'frame prep 101' in the process. However, although as suggested Ceeway are a good source of all tooling to do these jobs, you are looking at an investment of around £500 to cover all aspects of what you want to do. How many times will you use those tools/knowledge again?

  • Thanks all for your advice.

Retro_di_corsa, I'd probably say it would be foolish for me to make that investment just to learn! It would be really good to be able to watch this being done, however. Would you be able to help me with this?

    Thanks!

  • Sorry to jump into the thread like this but I'm also needing some help in this area.

I've just built a frame at home and need someone to face and chase by BB, headset and seat post. Are you able to do this retro_di_corsa?

I'm nearly done with my clean up and haven't yet looked into this final step. How much would one typically ask for such a job?

Thanks in advance and apologies for interrupting once again.

  • I need to chase a bottom bracket too. Retro when does the course start?

  • THREAD DREDGE!

just got my a steamroller frame second hand off ebay, stripped it down and had it beautifully powdercoated at armourtex.

does anyone have a headtube/bb facing tool that I can access in exchange for beer?
