Manchester Velodrome Skills Accreditation

  • Ok, i've been for 2 taster sessions and now have my "blue slip". I'm booked on for a taster improver on Friday. Does anyone know what skills have to be gone through to achieve a pink slip? Information on what skills are required going forward would be great as well.

  • Your coach will be John Leech and for fucks sakes listen to what he says and you will sail through Geoff another coach will be on the track with you and Sue another coach will be there as well you will do lumps and bumps ,basically going round the track roller coaster fashion, you may do through and off,and riding in twos through and off.
I am on the sqt after it come and say hello I may be taking the Panasonic or a planet x.
    Good luck and ride safe

  • Cheers, sounds similar to what was done in the taster? I'll come say hello definitely. So advice is just to listen? I did get a bit of a bollocking in one of the tasters for slowing too quickly. All taken on board though.

  • In a word yes lots of people don't listen or carry on chatting when the coach is giving instruction, then wonder why it goes tits up on the track.

  • I'd be curious to try the accreditation. See if it is much different from Newport.

  • I was thinking that I would love to ride in Manchester. Maybe we need to organise a London crew

  • Cool, fingers crossed i will have a pink slip this time saturday and can book on for getting my green slip. Look forward to meeting you as well.

TBH it's the coach's responsibility to make sure everyone is listening, even if it means treating the riders like children. Better to make someone feel silly for a few seconds than to let them cause an accident.

  • Agree but the coach did that on the last session I ran and a guy went and put in a compliant about the coach saying he was getting treated like a kid.

  • Really? haha.

There's a fine line, some coaches don't do it as a full time job and often don't do enough self reflection or act on feedback. I always thought the set up was good at Manchester, although I witnessed a session in the winter up there which was definitely the worst track session I have ever seen delivered.

  • Irrelevant to this thread, but where shall I move it?

    Hmmm.....

  • I couldn't find a better thread. I thought about starting a 'track cycling in the news' thread but didn't in the event.

  • Lumps and Bumps that brings back some memories!
