• Hey folks. This weekend is the London Bikefest and bicycle music festival as part of some bigger 'green' music festival in regents park, near enough to primrose hill/chalk farm.

    Aparantly there will be
The London Bikefest (<- anyone know what this actually is? their pr guy should be shot)
A Bicycle Tournament with Tallbike Jousting!
    Bicycle Gymkhana games!
    BMX Tossing!
Fit the 20 inch marathon plus on an extra wide bmx wheel contests!
    Best Freakbike Contest!
    Ultimate footdown!
    Texas Twins!

Anyway the greenfair thing is quite a big deal, they reckon about 15/20,000 people will show up.

There's very little information I can find anywhere on the web to tell me what's going on where or when but overall it's looking like it should be a nice weekend so I thought i'd stick a post up on here about it to see who's going, if anyone else knows what's going on, to let you guys know about it, etc.

I'm not associated with the event in any way either so if it turns out to be shite, you can cry me a river!

    Kips

Hmm I thought that had been and gone. What was the other bike thing in Camden then - a few months ago>?

If the homepage of the link you posted is right, then it is this Sunday - first Sunday in June...

  • They are setting up now apprently. Workmate lives nearby.

  • Right, it's slowly becoming clearer. Whoever does the PR for these guys wants shooting though.

The link you posted hippy was to the camden green fair. Wheras this thing is the LONDON green fair. Link here. http://www.londongreenfair.org/ 4th and 5th of june, (thanks hippy) - this weekend aparantly.

  • I live nearby. If I wasn't so hungover i'd go down and have a look. Shall I go down and have a look? It'd involve getting out of bed.

  • 4/5th in Regents Park

  • shit, you're right, see even I can't get it right. It's this weekend at any rate. Editing my post now..

  • I'll confirm that, Adam from Hackney Cycle Workshop is involved

  • London Bicycle Music Festival and Bikefest 4-5th June

  • Yeah, but what's the bike-fest part? All the stuff i mentioned is supposedly part of the music festival. And on this map - it's a totally seperate area. So what the f**k is it?

  • bump for knowledge..

  • Ok so, who's actually going? Anyone fancy arranging to meet for tramp beers somewhere in the park? We can roll around on our arospoks and shout "Do a step!" at pedestrians..

    Meetup at bikefest list:

They are the same thing, in a sense, except that it seems to have been renamed for this year. I think it's been renamed before. The London Green Fair is this year's Camden Green Fair. :)

    Here's his thread:

Events like this which are somehow outside the forum's own tradition rarely get much attention. One problem is that unless people are planning a forum meet-up (as at the Smithfield Nocturne), for which the thread really needs to be started with much longer notice, mere event announcements, of the kind that Adam (Zebra Cyclist) tends to do in his threads, rarely get any bumps from people first viewing the thread and quickly slide down the forum. They are mere static information items that don't generate forum discussion.

  • James and I are planning to go tomorrow afternoon. Is anyone else going?

  • Yep, me - today was fun.

  • I've just come back from walking past it. I may be a grumpy old bastard, but it all seemed a bit full of hemp waistcoated muesli weavers for my liking. Anyone involved in meditation tents or aura healing will find me beating a hasty retreat.
It's a pity that I'm so shallow. I'm sure there were some nice people there with some good ideas about a lot of things. What was the bike fest part? I saw some cones set up, but nothing was happening.

  • hemp waistcoated muesli weavers for my liking. .

    "Lentil-botherer's i call em! ; )

  • I may be a grumpy old bastard,

    yep!

to be fair, the wholemeal sandal brigade were a minority...saturday was a glorious day, with some great bands on the main stage, and mainly loads of smiling families enjoying themselves...

the Bike powered music stage ( WELL DONE Mag Rev and Adam Thompson (zebra cyclist) for pulling it all together...) saw a steady stream of willing participants pedalling to power the sound system.....the tall-bike raised many a grin, with only a few minor industries from over-ambitious (blokes!) having a go!!!

Hackney Bike Workshop tent saw some steady business too, with many a happy punter leaving after a much needed fettle to their bikes....a couple of new volunteers turned up as well i believe

sunday unfortunately was a bit grim/grey/WET

    all in a fun weekend.....
