Bottom bracket tool

Has anyone got a bottom bracket tool I can borrow, since my bike makes an annoying clicking sound when I stand up and peddle?

In fact since I have almost no knowledge of bicycle maintenance I may just take it into Start cycles and ask them to have a go at fixing it for me.

I may borrow it from you if thats okay, only thing i'm worried about is taking it apart and then having no idea what to do with it other than putting some grease on it.

grab the cranks and rock them side to side (not the way the pedals turn, 90 degrees from that) is there any play/rocking? There should be none. Literally none. Creaking could be any number of things, isn't necessarily the bottom bracket..

I've just taken my cranks off, I had no problems with it moving side to side. However the bottom bracket itself feels like it's grinding when I turn it and doesn't move smoothly, i'm guessing this could be the problem?

My guess is that the bottom bracket in question, is fucked, and need replacing very soon.

I got the feeling that may be the case, if I get a replacement would I be able to borrow your tool to fit it?

Suppose I maybe should do then non cheapskate thing and buy one, then I wont be starting threads asking to borrow one again.
