Wanted: Nice but tatty road frame (53–55cm)

  • Looking for a nice '90s road frame (130mm rear spacing) that's seen better days for a beater commuter conversion. Paint chips and scratches are fine (encouraged even), but no dents or structural rust please. Top tube needs to be in the region of 53, 54 or 55 cm, budget up to £120. Lemme know what you've got, cheers!

  • I have the frame I bought off Hilary Stone last year (https://www.lfgss.com/thread43326.html) that is a bit small for me. Needs to go soon, so £50 F+F?

    HELYETT? ROAD FRAME c1983
    Seat Tube (ctc): 54cm
    Top Tube (ctc): 53cm
    Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 700C with brake drop of 45mm
    Frame tubing: Probably Reynolds 531C
This is a really very beautiful road frame quite possibly built by Bernard Carré for Helyett who were by the 80s owned by another company. by this period but I would not be at all certain. But what is certain is that this frame is really very nicely built... The very chunky setstays and partial wrapover seatstay tops are very typical of Bernard Carré’s work. Threads are British and the seatpost size is 27.2mm. A really understated frame.

Edit: Frame, forks and headset, that is. I'll be stripping the 8 speed campag gruppo in the next few days.

  • I've got a GT that's been sitting in the shed for a while. Alu though.

  • Ratbike thread can get fcuked, its basic economics, paint chips = cheaper!

  • konijn.

will get some pics tonight and get them up.
    will stick measurements with em.

if it fits you can have it!

54 square? It needs a new headset fitting - which will come with the bike, and has some other bits and bobs (stem, bars, cranks). Was my beater for a few years, but realised it's slightly too big for me, and I went all fixified back in wild years of 2007.

Was always meaning to turn it back into a ss rat bike, but never found the time.

  • will pm chris

  • may be interested if he isn't :)

  • sorry

    i'll get my coat...

Available to view in SW2 over the weekend if you want a squizz. Hell, you can have a ride on it if you don't mind a mismatched seatpost and shonky brakes. It didn't bother me as I only used it on the turbo for the last few months. If you decide you want it I can probably strip it in 10-15 minutes, and you can have first dibs on any parts.

  • pm with you sir.
