It makes me so angry

  • Some guys at work are riding round all the premiership clubs for charity, very commendable and should raise a few thousand for thier charity - good luck to them.

What gets me boiling is the bike they are giving away in a raffle.

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_762369_langId_-1_categoryId_165499

I challenged the guy on the stand that its not worth 50p let alone the £400 value thay have assigned to it.. But lo and behold it was originally sold near that figure though now is heavily discounted.

This peice of crap IS being sold to new cyclists (or those not in the know) and given it has no QR on the rear wheel (okay neither does mine, or front for that matter but i carry a spanner) has the lowest range of gears available and very low range components is just going to be utter shite to ride and will fall apart.

Worst part of all looking at the bb it is an old style cup and cone type affair - i thought people didnt even make these any more.

Compared to what you can get for the original £400 this is a disgrace.

So Fuck off halfords and all you leeches producing and selling these over priced peices of crap.

Rant over, that feels better :-)

  • I think you missed the point... they're having to give them away.

  • Why don't you donate a more suitable prize yourself if you feel so strongly?

  • I'll donate a Create bike to the cause.

  • Yeah! Fuck the Pound!

  • WHOAH! there's nothing wrong with cup and cone bearings.

  • not seen any skip bikes to donate

@racer - nothing wrong with cup and cone bearings, a lot wrong with the monkey metal version on this. I was asked by a friend of my wife to see why her sons bike was difficult to ride, BB was so bad it had damaged the frame and this was a nearly new similar bike

  • It's a charity auction. It's not about the bike.

What are you actually so angry about? The auction or the fact that the bike exists?

  • WHOAH! there's nothing wrong with cup and cone bearings.

    Here, Here.

  • Sorry I know how bad halfords bikes are I was just having a laugh. Yes cup and cone bearings do need to be made of proper metal like high carbon or case hardened steel not low quality mazak as the do have to deal with a fair bit of force.

  • the fact the thing exists, nothing against the guys doing the ride and have pledged some cash for them

Sounds like a good ride :-)

  • WHOAH!
That's English for 'stop a horse'.

  • It's not a bicycle, its a BSO.

The winner of the bike in the charity auction will not ride it. They will either keep it in their garage or give it away.

  • I've been riding one of these for 2 years. Nothing wrong with it, does about 15miles a day.
