  • Anyone into surfcasting? NOT fishing, this is a thread just for tournament and competetive casting.

No fish were harmed in the making of this thread.

  • yeah, but without fish how does it work?

  • Every day I learn that there's some people out there stranger than I am. I like this.

  • i went to the national's held at the Norfolk showground sometime in the early 80's with my dad, paul kerry held the 5oz record then (244yds?) i have to say it's not much of a spectator sport for a young lad. the back of my head is in a photograph in a surfcasting book (taken at the champs)

  • "world record held by Danny Moeskops casting a distance of 286.63 meters" Damn!

  • Srsly?

  • bloody hell!

  • "world record held by Danny Moeskops casting a distance of 286.63 meters" Damn!

I might study the biomechanics, do some specific gym work then go smash this Belgian geezer's record.

  • yeah, but without fish how does it work?

You don't need fish or water. Just a big fuck-off field, some markers and a long tape measure.

  • Sounds awesome, it can be used like a training for fishing?

  • Not if you fish on English canals

  • I knew a female fencer who used to do fly fishing casting competitions.

The fly fishing action uses similar muscles and she would just do the competitions and sell the prizes (fishing tackle etc) to other fishers as she had no interest in fishing itself.

  • clive, are you suggesting a coast to coast?

  • Is it in the 'limpics?

  • Personally I'm a fan of the straight forward overhead thump. 2oz lead, 2 3/4 lb test curve fast taper blank........oooh, luvverly

  • overhead thump.

    Heh, now there's a term I haven't heard in a long time

  • All I care about is whether there's enough beer on the boat. Catching a fish is a bonus..

  • boat?
    boats are cheatin

  • wrong thread, no boat no sea no water no beer

  • Every thread needs beer.

  • You could have beer, looks like the guys who do this certainly enjoy beer...

But no fucking water, boats or fish.

  • sure, all on his side!!!

  • Pffff. Timber sports is where it's at.

  • south-african, pendulum and lay-back. i wonder if any new casting techniques have evolved in the last decade?
