It's also not powdercoat, so won't be anywhere near as tough.
Unfortunately true metallic powdercoating is quite specialist and unbelievably expensive (I don't even know if pearlescent powdercoating exists) - although armourtex's white powdercoat with sparkly lacquer will be a reasonably good substitute - it won't look as good as the Mercian job, but it'll be cheap and tough.

is someone badmouthing Mercian paintskill ?
-

What? No, not at all! I'm just saying that even stoved enamel isn't as tough as powdercoat (or not anymore anyway). Plus the lacquer over the stoved enamel basecoat is weaker than the enamel anyway.

what will armourtex's white + sparkly lacquer actually be like?
as it sound more like xmas decoration than a subtle shimmer??
-
• #8
it can be quite subtle if you request single sparkle lacquer, but not really pearlescent white

I actually want that typical metallic white found on many old frames, what I do not want is a) a colourful shimmer like an actual pearl or b) a glossy top layer with sparkle underneath.
I have the fear that the armourtex solution will look like the latter one?

yeah it probably would. i think you will need to bite the bullet and pay up at argos if you want that paint job, not powder coat though

that's a good example of what I would like:

I can vouch for Argos as they've done 2 frames for me in a pearlescent white both beautiful. However, they're not cheap and they're not in London, it's also oven baked enamel. Although they will pick your frame up from your home and deliver it back to you for about 25 notes.

how much would a complete argos respray cost, without shipping? (frame and forks)

Pearlescent White is beautiful!!

140 notes for pearlescent, frame and forks, not including pick up and delivery.
Hey,
does anyone of you know a powdercoating business that offers pearlescent/metallic-ish white as a colour choice? (unfortuntately there exists no RAL code for it)
It seems very common but for example Armourtex offers nothing at all in that direction.
