- Probably best to wait a while before calling everyone dickheads particularly if you want some help.
- Academics are all probably away sunning themselves. Isn't it still the holidays and isn't one reason people like to study and to teach those that do, because they get long holidays. While there may be many academics here, they may be involved in very different areas.
- I am not an academic. UCL is, however, excellent and they have quite a significant transport research thing going, possibly within their geography department. London is clearly an exciting prospect for study of your chosen subject.
- London is very expensive.
- London is the most exciting city that exists. Once you come here, you will not leave.
- Oliver Schick is probably a good person to talk to about this (and about most other things)
- Probably best to wait a while before calling everyone dickheads particularly if you want some help.

Why not ride the wave that is ucycle nottingham and continue to study there (unless there's no sustainable transport phd available there)?
Lots of cycling in Bristol too.
One of the main cycling academic dudes used to be up in Bolton but now is in London, his name escapes me though. Puts on a conference each year.
As you're studying cycling, I'd be kinda surprised if you didn't know most of this already.

Oh dear. With an attitude like that, maybe a year out travelling would improve your life chances.

Sorry about putting the dickheads song on, but I only just heard it a couple of days ago and it made me laugh.

With that attitude, then London isn't the place for you.
Go to Liverpool instead.

London is awesome, obviously. But, as you know, the programme should dictate where you end up. Talk to Oliver (for general knowledge) and *m.f (for academic knowledge, as he worked in a similar area I believe) for ideas on programmes.
Hi, I'm just about to start my MA dissertation about encouraging more people to cycle to work and I'm thinking about what to do after.
I'm currently studying Science, Technology and Society Research Methods at Nottingham University and I'm aware that there are some academics who post on this forum.
Just wondering if you have any suggestions about where, London or elsewhere, the best places to do a PhD are incase I decide to carry on with the theme of cycling promotion.
So far places like York and Lancaster and Oxford seem quite good for this sort of thing. What do you guys think?
