Aerospoke 650C tyre sizing... help

Posted on
  • Hi,

I recently bout an aerospoke wheel off ebay, listed as a 650C.

I then bought a white Duro Stinger 650C tyre from america, hoping it would be perfect, but the tyre is very loose. It says 650 (23 x 571) on the tyre wall. It is so loose that there is a gap between tyre and rim....?

My Aerospoke measures 571mm which Sheldon website says is the standard size for the 650C wheel...

Does anyone know whats happening? Please help.

    cheers

  • have you tried putting an inner tube between the two?

  • Yup, it just over inflates or comes out the gap

  • Duro tyres are fecking liability! I've got a set of 700c and they're too small for 700c rims. They're crap. Buy a 650c Gatorskin.

  • Thing is I need a White one and this is the only White 650 I've found anywhere

  • "need"

  • embrace the black.i have a nice rubino pro 23c, unused, still folded. i'll throw in however many 650 tubes i've got left too for £20. much nicer than the gatorskins imo.. that's the best you'll get dude, those duros are way erratic and probably no good on these harsh streets even if they did fit right. why do you need a white one?

  • 'Needing' white is the way to make a bike look shit.

  • The blacker the berry the sweeter the skid!

  • just to check - this was a folding tyre? and you have put rim tape on and inflated the tube so it sits by itself and then fitted the tyre in against the wall of the rim and you still got that gap? not doubting you, just wondering. probably need another couple of pictures. rim/lip/wall would help. but the tyre's not been made the right size from what you're saying.

  • Not a foldable tyre no. I did inflate but the tyre did not sit against the wall of the rim all the way around (hardly any of it especially when inflated a lot).

I do want White for my white aerospoke.
Pajamas- I will keep that in mind, cheers.

  • Most likeley the tyre is 571mm and the wheel is 559mm. Note that Aerospoke themselves refer to these wheels as 26", *not *650c. I don't know how narrow your frame requires the tyres to be, but something like a white 26" Geax Tattoo will fit the Aerospoke.

  • ^this. They don't make 650c Aerospokes, you've been done.

It's a 26" MTB Aerospoke which is all they make. Even says on their website their 26" has BSD 559 mm and uses a Velocity Aeroheat AT rim which is also only made in 24" or 26"

  • Hmm.. The diameter of the rim is 571mm though? Width it is about 24mm

  • The measurement refers to the bead seat diameter, not the overall diameter of the rim.

  • Aerospoke used to make 650c version but not any more. Thats an MTB rim

  • Welcome to the world of 26" tyres*

    *) Mighty Boosh music

  • I stopped reading at "need".
