How can it be fixed/free AND currently double fixed?
-
• #3
The Formula rear hub has one side threaded for fixed - with the reverse thread for a locknut, the other side is threaded for a freewheel, but I've used an old bottom bracket lockring, so I can use a fixed sprocket instead of a freewheel on that side. It's an old trick.
If you're not sure what I mean I can post a photo. -

Pls post a photo, Tig. I like this idea, as I have fixed/free and would rather fixed/fixed

+1 seeing this technique please

Bike Forums suggests this is risky if you are a skidder:

I can't quite get my head around this. The ring goes on the same thread as the cog, as in the same direction?

you can lock two nuts together on the same thread.....like a headset top nut without the washer in between.

I've done this now, gone from flip flop to double fixed. Your cog winds on to the thread for the freewheel, nice and tight with a chain whip. Then you hold it down with a bottom bracket lockring, left winding, I believe. I got the lockring for £3 from Mosquito.
This has been a good excuse to drop from 48:18 to 48:19 and get spinning in London's Famous London's traffic.
DISCLAIMER: I run two brakes. If you are a skidder, this is probably not for you as the cog can unwind with the backward pressure on the pedals. See link to discussion above for details.

Were these made by Hattori Hanzo? if so, seems underpriced?
-
• #11
Yes. Hattori Hanzo made these frames in a one off deal with Pearson.
Total bargain prices. -

Rubbish. Hattori Hanzo died in 1596. Long before Pearson was established in 1860.

• #13
Hattori Hanzo over expressed mth.

officially, but am sure he had the Pheonix staff of immortality no?
