that's well dodgy. same thing happened to me 2 years ago, snapped clean in 2 where the bars meet the stem, on fulham rd in rush hour. the wrong diameter bars were fitted by my lbs, so the metal gradually warped and finally tore. these were cheap bars though.

Yeah, I've seen it happen by the stem/shim or when someone has clamped a brake on too tight. But this was a quarter in.

this is making me worry about my Airwings with 26.0 clamp I shoved in a 25.4 stem.

You could always cut the other side off to match and have ultimate fixie skidder rep with micro short bars? (Sorry not being very helpful, must have been scary, did you swerve like crazy?)
