  • Non-fatal. My flatmate saw (from feet away) a female cyclist knocked off by right turning car around 1900 today. Went tumbling over car bonnet. Cyclist was just proceeding straight along main road, car was turning right into lesser road across her.

Driver stopped and details provided. My flatmate took photos of the scene and the bike (forks sheared right off, front wheel buckled). Ambulance came and by the time my flatmate left, the hit cyclist was talking and the paramedics had had her standing up. Only a knee visibly injured. Driver shaken up and my flatmate too, who walked her bike home.

    Hope the girl is okay.

  • Your flatmate sounds like a really good guy (girl?).

Hope the girl won't have any long term damage.

  • yeah she's ace. was pretty shaken up though, as i say she walked home and got her boyf to meet her on the way. she was waiting at the T-junction to join Garrat Lane and the car was turning off onto her road.

she kept the hit cyclist from moving until the ambulance came, so did a grand job all round.

  • Was just looking through the Rider Down forum and hoped this one was me, but no... nearish to where my accident was and same day but I was in the morning. EXACT same sort of accident; driver turning right into a side road across my path and I went across the bonnet.

No photos, no details, driver did stop, bruised, grazed, neck and shoulder pain, trashed front fork and wheel, bent enough back wheel to replace it. Frame -might- be OK and handlebars -might- be OK.

  • If you went through the bonnet and it wasn't your fault, you should insist on calling police and ambulance. How many times people feel ok, because of the adrenaline, and then find out they're concussed or have a fracture/internal damage?

  • relieved both riders ok.

yes notify the authorities at all times.

if these crashes get recorded they can inform public policy.

and yes pursue claims through insurance etc for new bikes etc.

  • damn bad day in earlsfield then. heal up TOTkat

  • EEI - so, so true. I've just learned that the hard way. No matter how fine you think you feel, it is the adrenaline and you really really should get an ambulance/police. I got told off hugely by the triage nurse and doctor for not coming in an ambulance when I got hit last week.
