Worthy thread, but needs merging.

Just received this from an email address supposedly to do with Fitzrovia Cycles...
If anyone who knows them can pass it on it looks like someone is phishing in their name...
Hope you get this on time, I made a trip to Madrid, Spain and had my bag stolen from me with my passport and credit cards in it. The embassy is willing to help by letting me fly without my passport, I just have to pay for a ticket and settle Hotel bills. Unfortunately for me, I can't have access to funds without my credit card, I've made contact with my bank but they need more time to come up with a new one. I was thinking of asking you to lend me some quick funds that I can give back as soon as I get in. I really need to be on the next available flight.
I can forward you details on how you can get the funds to me. You can reach me via email or on Blue Island hotel front desk phone, +34632256302.
I* await your response....

Been looking at this as a way of throttling back Phishing: [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DomainKeys_Identified_Mail[/ame]
It's an interesting area, we've got a couple of clients using it now- too soon to tell how effective it's going to be yet though.
Looks awesome on paper.

Don't worry - we got this sorted. Apologies to anyone who received the email. Weirdest spam thing I've ever heard of.

I heard good reviews about Fitzrovia as well. Dropped my bike in there for a BB service and told when to come back. So came back then and the same thing: bike untouched. I needed it for a big ride for the weekend so just took my bike unserviced. They had a power outtage apparently, but the shop assistant couldn't tell from the paper work whether anything had been done. I may try them again but not a great start. Went to my LBS as usual.
As dimi said, great people on here who deserve respect. But bad timing I suppose...

I'd just like to say a few words about how great Fitzrovia bikes have been over the past few weeks.
I was knocked off my bike about a month ago and the front end was knocked about. Alex at Fitzrovia checked over the bike and prepared a quote for me which was sent to the driver. After some umming and ahhing on the driver's part, and a bit of chasing by Alex, the money was paid and they repaired and built up the bike and threw in a few extras too. They were fantastic and I couldn't have expected more, the shitty situation was turned good by their help. I could not recommend more.
They also have an incredible selection of vintage frames hanging up which are more than worth a look at if you're in the Oxford St area.

I don't have an excellent story or whatever but I was looking for a replacement stem bolt earlier on in the week and the helpful guy there just gave me a spare from their parts bin gratis. I know its not a huge deal but its very pleasant to know people can be so helpful and they're not out to just try and make money from you. So thanks.

Dunno if it was me you spoke to, but you're welcome! We're very much of the view that just a small gesture can go a long way...like it should be in all bike shops. Cheers!

Excellent shop with great service, the guys did a safety check on the carbon forks on my Roberts after I'd had an off in Regents yesterday, all for the paltry sum of £20. I'll be back, even if its just to gaze at the multitude of lovely steel hanging from the ceiling.

been in there many times as they are (almost) my lbs and this place is everything you could ask for in a bike shop. They sorted out a headset compatibility issue with my road bike, have unstuck a seatpost for my g/f, always seem to have the parts I need no matter how small or random,, are usually happy to sort you out on the spot with a quick repair if its minor, are a pretty friendly bunch and most importantly are accessible as they are open until 7 on weekdays.
Great shop

Also praise that shop - really friendly and helpful staff, reasonably prices considering the premium location.
Would probably suggest they don't have doom blasting out while customers are in, though. Not sure what studies they've done but I'd imagine it's not condusive to customer spending and retention.

Anyone know if they're open today, BH monday. Phones go dead and no recorded message. My pedals have been stripped and a slashed rear. Not fucking happy...

^ might not be if they are not answering phone, you could try a bit later

That's what I was thinking. I'll hang around until 10 otherwise I'll be walking home.

kinoko? condor? all other big chain shops in central?
Popped in today for a chat, a chain and an inner tube. Helpful, friendly chaps indeed.
Know everyone's aware of these guys, but thought it worth a mention anyway.
