    VITUS 992 single speed, 54cm

Time to let the Vitus 992 go. I’ve been using it for the last 18 months after buying it in Marseilles in Aug 2009. I’ve climbed and descended the Montagne de Lure (little sister of the Ventoux at 1800 something meters, only met one cyclist in the fog, very different experience from the Ventoux) on it and done numerous rides in Herts and Essex as well as used it on the rollers. It’s my favourite frame (love the raw metal/silver colour, the head tube shape + the geometry), but after months of denial I’ve finally accepted that it's too small for me and that I'm definitely not about to shrink (my bike collection needs to though).

It has some scratches/marks and a couple of dents + no logos (you can see the 'shadow' of the Vitus letters on the top tube), so not immaculate, but it retains a wow factor- people always comment on it. I believe these were the first frames with integrated headsets and Sean Kelly won the 1992 Milan-San Remo on a Vitus 992. Wasn't this one though - his was pink, but it makes it a classic. I did install an NOS Stronglight Competition BB in Sept 2009.
Long ad, I know, but reflects my reluctant sale. There are lots of 979s on Ebay, the 992s and their ovoid tubes are rarer.

    Frame: Vitus 992
Wheels: Rear Black CXP33 with Hope Hub and 16T single speed freewheel (never been on the road), CXP33 with shiny Ultegra Hub at the front (not the one in the pic). The rear hub has some scratches, but the rim is immaculate as the previous owner hadn’t figured out how to get the 130mm spacing right with this hub, so never used it. Front wheel is used and the rim is worn. 32 spokes on both wheels.
Tyres: front is an Evo Open Corsa Cx with a couple of cuts, rear is a used Hutchinson Nitro.
Crankset: Stronglight 107 double with black 42/52 Gipiemme rings (from a Moser) + an extra 52T Stronglight 107 ring
Brakes: Shimano RX-100 + Shimano aero levers
Stem: 3TTT Mutant (NOS, never been on the road, but has some shop wear), ITM handlebar
    Headset: Mavic
Bottom bracket: NOS Stronglight competition 118mm, installed Sept 2009
    Saddle: orange Colnago-Hoskar-Rabobank-branded San Marco
If you're wondering the derailleur hanger has been covered with tape to protect the thread

I've this frame geared, fixed (Eno) and now with a magic single speed gear for easy urban riding and I love the feel and geometry of the frame.

£275, pickup from North London, NW5. I can throw in a rear derailleur and I have a pair of used Suntour downtube shifters too if you're prefer to ride it geared.

  • Swell, do you have any idea of the age of this guy?
