sjs stock most things... you tried them?

More expensive but a better option is middleburn oilers. This also means you can lube your cables easy. 5mm ones for brake cable.

I cant remember seeing that exact thing but if they exist its the kind of thing (nipples and cable ends etc) that most bike shops have by the dozen in the workshop rather than on public sale. Best to try a good quality LBS rather than an in town evans. Most places would probably charge you 20p.....

New outers of the correct length are how much?

Thats very true, never even thought about that! Especially for a front brake only its only a foot of cable outer, again most bike shops have big reels of it in the workshop...

It's not a matter of not having the right length of outer, I want to fit them just before the brake cables come out from underneath the bar tape, thus allowing me to play about with the number of brakes I fit without having to retape my bars. For this reason I also discounted using the Middleburn cable oilers as it struck me they'd be a bit too bulky underneath the bartape.

there is an in line adjuster on Shimano STI - silver with longitudinal fluted finish for finger grip, but whether it'd fit brake cables I wouldn't know- brake cables are fatter in daimeter then gear cables

Drill your bars, Mercx style :-)

you can actually use a part of a noodle (the curvy thing for V brakes - pull off the metal curve and what you're left with will join 2 sections of outer cable inline. )

Winner! You, Sir (Madam?) are a star.
There is such a thing as a small metal ferrule that allows you to join two sections of brake outer. Anyone know where I could get a couple?
