  • Well, more a clarification if anything.

I've never been able to find out exactly when my Olmo frame was produced, there are no serial numbers, Googling comes up with nothing, and Olmo.it refuse to reply to any email enquiry.

I seem to have picked up via eBay another Olmo frame the same as my current one. This one came with (I believe) the original headset. If I can ID this then it can only help in working out the age of the frame.

Here's a couple of pics of the headset, I've looked at Velobase and the closest match there is a Record HS-01OR which was an off road headset. Surely not??!??

    Thanks in advance
    Sam

There are two similar headsets in the thread above, but not exactly the same. Hilary says 90's.

    Not helpful.

  • Don't think it's Chorus Andy, on the Velobase photo the large screw down cup (i.e. not the one that goes in the frame) has an angled edge in it while mine hasn't. Does that make sense?

Thanks anyway 36x18. I hadn't actually thought of looking through Hilary's headset posts.

  • I couldn't think why I didn't think it was a C Record headset (see below), until I realised that Campag didn't go 8 speed until 1992 (I think), thus introducing 130 rear spacing (which my frame has), with the fact that the C Record era finished in 1990.

Obviously this all assumes that it is indeed the original headset!

  • I have a really strange headset on my Peugeot Esprit Bike, the forks steerer measures 25mm and the bottom cup Outer diameter is 1 1/8" what size headset do I need?

  • It is a 1994 Campag Pista Headset. (HS03-Pl)

I know, Because I'm looking at an exploded view of them in a catalogue in front of me!

  • Hmmm, not sure. 19 bearings each race on that one, 22 on mine. Although everything else is the same, so it could be a different groupset from the same era.

Just out of interest, where did you get that image from?

  • I have access to every campag catalogue from the last 20 years :)

  • Nice one. Could you post up the standard Record headset from the same year please?

  • This appears to be a C-Record headset. Early version. To date a frame by the assembled components can be very irritating. Try to get some more information about the frame and brand itself.

Jup, i'm also almost certain this is an early C-rec! Beautiful headset btw.

  • Really? Shame it's battered!

    Thanks.

  • Looks like you've got a nice Super Record washer in there though, it should be a thinner flat washer like in the image from Cheesecake_intl, it should rebate into the locknut and be almost hidden - looks really good. That grooved washer fetches a few quid on its own..
    Cheers

  • The washer I have isn't grooved, sadly.

    Thanks.

A shame indeed, the races look really pitted..
