That's what Visa get for sponsoring the thing. They paid millions... if you want tickets, better open a new bank account quick smart.

As annoying as it is having to pay with Visa, there's the option of taking a pre-paid card to get around this issue, you can also apply for tickets in writing and pay by cheque or in cash.
The timings seem to be the biggest piss take for me. Why there are no evening races is beyond me, Team GB are pretty much guaranteed to take a large haul of medals on the track and yet the TV audience will be minimal because it starts either in the morning or in the afternoon.

Fuck the Omnium. Fuck the UCI. Fuck the IOC. And that's all I've got to say about that.

I've just been reading an article on the dates and layout of the track events. Seems like our Ed Clancy may very well need to make some important decisions if he is to ride the pursuit and the omnium in such close succession.

not much different than football ticket prices but you get to watch more than 90 mins.
did you expect it to be £10 for the day? -
• #7
^^^ that's a rubbish argument. Are you really using Premiership parallels?

the ticket prices do not surprise me, they are a fair wedge but then so are concert tickets or even west end cinema tickets.
it's the pinnacle of the sport that you wish to watch in an amazing velodrome.
so what if it costs a days wages for a ticket? if you can't afford that then there are some tickets for £20, if you can't afford that watch the road race for free.
the velodrome doesn't have a large capacity so you will not be far from the action.
a bargain compared to the athletics. -

Prices starting at £50 per ticket for a finals event seems rather expensive, if this is all about inclusion, than fuck me, imagine a dad and his kid coming down from let's say Manchester on the train;
£100 for tickets, another £70 at least for train tickets (no chance there will be discount tickets for the duration of the Olympic games), £10 for a tube pass, so you're spending near on £200 quid and haven't even bought a t-shirt or a Olympic Happy Meal yet. -

i just checked the prices for man-u v chelsea and they wanted between £240 and £300 for behind the goal or 'next to quadrant' (between half way and corner flag)
so it's cheaper to go and watch the cyclingi'll be watching on the telly.

Rep'd.

the velodrome holds 6000 people. if they trebled the prices they would probably still sell all the tickets, be thankful they aren't more expensive.

This. It's not right that people are being asked to pay again to watch the games that they've already paid £150 each to host. The Swiss win again.

It just seems like it's going to be a lovely jolly upper middle class day out except for the very dedicated. Not sure I should have expected anything else, but this isn't the Premiership (a money making machine, as far as I can see) - it's the Olympics.
I don't have a problem with the lower end pricing, but they jump up by so much so quickly, that's my main moan.
-

I will be paying by cheque, if I get any. Outdated technology FTW.
-

9 Track sessions and only 3 sessions where prices are starting at £20 is not what was promised when they won the bid.
FWIW, tickets for Chelsea v Man U are normally £48.00+BF.

150% increase in prices seems outrageous. But of course, if we want to see the Olympics we can always go and see the archery, plenty of £20 tickets there, even the triathlon medal ceremony costs £20.

Hmmm...premiership, FIFA, olympics. They don't seem that dissimilar to me. It sounds cynical, but if we think that the olymipcs/prem/FIFA are all about promoting sport before making money I think that may be a litle naive. Sad but probably true.

No doubt some tickets are very expensive, but there’s plenty of time to save up if need be, and with all of this happening in our city in our lifetime, maybe it’s worth the expenditure. Having said that though, I’ll not be raiding the piggybank. Maybe I’ll regret it though.

Olympic track cycling is dead to me.
It's not the best riders in the world doing, in my opinion, the best races.
Price, however, seems fairly reasonable if there is anything you actually want to watch.

Don't worry, I know they wouldn't let my type in. -

Putting the £325 a ticket aside - where the fuck are the poetry, literature and dancing about a bit, painting and architecture events?
We get 13 days of beach volleyball but no art. Bollocks.
Oh and we've covered this a bit here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread39961-2.html

I actually want to see the Archery. BMX would be good fun too. Not sure where the mtbing is. Road race is basically free. Still, the track events are a mess.

If you want anything but the worst seats you'd better be feeling flush.
Applications will be accepted between 15 March and 26 April.
The email I got this morning from the 2012 people says:
"We will be taking payment between 10 May and 10 June 2011 and we will notify you whether you have been allocated tickets by 24 June 2011. Remember that Visa (credit, debit or prepaid) will be the only payment method accepted for online applications. We will also be pleased to accept cheques and postal orders for applications submitted using the form included in the official ticketing guide. See below for details."
I don't have a Visa card, and when you 'see below for details' there is no info.
2012 tickets - for everything else, there's Mastercard...
