the whole point of it in the U.K is a winter sport,
we go hard all the way through,
the forests are too overgrown and bracken too heavy in summer,
so only a few events are the big ones in summer calendar.
theres a London Club
S.L.O.W
this was an event they did I competed in in deep snow the other week- it was mad as fuck in the best tradition of British niche sports

yes its the U.K, yes theres lots of dodgy lycra...spot the wally? -

the reason the tour de trigs was cancelled with due to ice on roads, so it was pulled by the emergency services.. not because of the walkers.. in 43 years the tour has had two outbreaks of foot and mouth, and only one extreme weather. never lost anyone... well i say that apparently one lad did disappear, amost created a massive search (60 square miles) only to be found at home in bed.. he'd forgotten to tell anyone, he'd quit..

yeah true^ very very true, that one I posted was only ok as the roads were clear.

Season final, Princes Risborough
http://www.midlandtrailquests.co.uk/events-and-results/event-details.php?e=142
A trailquest is a mountain bike orienteering event where the competitors have to navigate from control location to control location, punching a score card at each location. Competitors may ride solo or as a team of two (that must ride together). ![](http://www.midlandtrailquests.co.uk/assets/images/general/track1.jpg) © Perceptis Control locations vary in the amount of points they are worth and competitors may use any legal route to ride between them. The rider or team of two who scores the highest number of points within the time limit is the winner. Trailquesting is an exciting sport that is rapidly growing in popularity. Competitors of all ages and both sexes regularly take part.

Bizarre, just looking for more news on Tour De Trigs and came back here to LFGSS!
Tour De Trigs cancelled forever?
Absolutely gutted. Signed up to do it for charity last year, when the snow closed it, and so signed up again this year only for the whole thing to be abolished.
Anyone got more news?
EDIT: Or recommendations for something equally tough?

Wow! Thanks MF. One thing I should have said though is - the group of us planning to do TdT are definitely more "24hr walkers" than "fell running sprinters"...
Also, I was hoping you might post in reply - have you got any info on what's happened to TdT? I quit once as a teenager, then missed a checkpoint (I swear wasn't there - we looked and... hmmmm: still bitter) and so completed the course but didn't get the certificate.
Never thought I'd live my life without completing the challenge!

not sure tbh, ..thing with lots of grassroots events is they take volunteers to run, so it gets hard to maintain, could be the reason why theres so many adventure races in the calendar that are expensive, have a sponsor, marketing, but dont offer that much (imo)
if you search there are lots of webs sites for 'unoffical' records, like South Downs Double (bike race) must be plenty for 3 peaks and so on.
let us know what you get up to.! -

yeah that would have been me. how did you do then? complete every day? it was superb as always,
that last day on the hill, on the bog myrtle and minimal contours with the odd boulder- thats my idea of dying and going to heaven running up there. -

yeah that would have been me. how did you do then? complete every day? it was superb as always,
that last day on the hill, on the bog myrtle and minimal contours with the odd boulder- thats my idea of dying and going to heaven running up there. We only went for the last 3 days.. My girlfriend (doing it since she was a nipper) and her mum (apparently represented Scotland when she was younger) took me along with them and I was coerced into taking part on the final two days.
I did an orange course for my first ever go on the 5th day (spent most of the time over-taking and being overtaken by a 12 year old girl!) - 23rd out of 86.
On the final day I did a Long Orange and came 2nd out of 16 by 30 odd seconds. I must agree, it was absolutely stunning being up on that hill, gorgeous views of the river.
I was going to shout 'do a skid' when I saw the black cap with the stripe but I hadn't clearly seen the lettering on the side so wasn't 100% sure & didn't want to risk it.
We might be doing what I believe is called the JK in Wales next Easter?

http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/soa/page/jk2012-being-staged-in-highland-perthshire/

this will be good might do this

i used to do this year's ago.. scouts, school, now the cyclists are into it..
one of the best event's in the UK is in banbury, oxfordshire called the tour de trigs.. fabulous history, very tough walking competition, hopefully the banbury scouts can keep it going.. i have never done it, but helped out on check points, my missus has done it three times, reckons i'm not mentally strong enough to finish it, i'll keep her thinking that for a little while longer..
when people endlessly complain about the youth today, i remember this and smile thinking if only they knew how brilliant some kids can be..
