It hits all the retro buttons, but TBH, it is a fairly run of the mill steel frame. I would rather support one of the few remaining British custom frame builders than buy this mass produced frame in a retro paint job. Holdsworth, sadly, is but a name these days. All remnants of their business long gone.

I had an original Holdsworth Professional. It was fitted with campag and galli. It was a really comfortable ride, but I had the chance of an Aende frame so swapped everything onto that. Although the image looked better it was very twitchy and you could barely ride hands off. I sold the Holdsworth frame to my mate for 25 quid. He then got it resprayed red and gave it to his brother. I had mixed feelings when I saw a pic and report in a cycling magazine the other week. 2,500.00 quid. Strewth!!!
Will post a pic when the missus works out how to do it. Billy -

Lovely, a Holdsworth Pro was my first lightweight frame bought second hand from Swinnerton's in Stoke-on-Trent for £35 in 1974, but as Yoav says 'Holdsworth' is just a name now.

I used to live very close to their shop in Upper Richmond Road in Putney. I used to just look at all the shiny stuff in the window as I couldn't afford anything but then again, I was only 11 at the time, and my bike was a Chopper.

''aye Windy,'' you could use a whole tube of autosol in that picture!

I love orange bikes, and that's a stunner. But I'd be able to build a Mercian with the same kit for less than £2.5k, so that's where my money would go.

They've just taken a well regarded and established name and slapped it onto a generic (albeit fairly nice) frame. Seriously, fuck falcon and their faux british bollocks.

Holdsworth themselves were not averse to doing the same thing. 2 great names of the past, Claud Butler and Freddie Grubb lived on as badge-engineered Holdsworth frames in the 1970s.

What was the last proper holdsworth? I can recall a brochure that I had dating to probably 1986 with a lovel white holdsworth with Reynolds 531 professional tubing. The Red 531 professional badge alone would have been enough to sell the bike to me if I had the money especially as Hinault was still using it to build up his time trial bikes for the tour of that year. Love to see a pic of that years brochure if any one has one.

quite...
for the record i thinks its
*over-priced
*gorgeous
*probably a lovely frame.....its built in Taiwan ( i guess)...so in all likelihood of far superior build quality/finish to anything British built.... -

I agree with you, but only up to point
If I was going to spend that kind of money, I would go to one of the remaining British frame builders and have something custom made.
There is nothing wrong with reviving an old name; the Hetchins brothers died long ago but their designs are still being built by hand in Britain. I have seen a modern curly frame and they are beautifully made.
If someone was to properly resuscitate Holdsworth and build frames as they did that might be different, but let's face it, this bike is aimed squarely at those who want to buy a bit of nostalgia.

My Holdsworth professional, the other bike is a Harry Quinn. Previous owner tyneside legend Joe Waugh, canny socks like! :)

Joe Waugh was class.
At least the socks aren't the patterned variety that were popular around that era
