How are the bikes suited to polo? A bit odd using bike polo to promote a non-polo bike if they're not
//justaskin//
-

they are 'fixies'. all polo players use fixies, didn't you know wayne.

similar to Create
Similar in what sense? Being deathtraps?
Then again, never look a gift horse in the mouth, I'll play for a free bike.

Looking to organise a one off event to launch a new bike brand, players play on the new bikes, winners win one each. They are simple no frills fixies, similar to Create rather than bespoke bikes. Was wondering how people would feel about this?
you should have searched create on here before making that comparison. they are not held in particularly hight regard round these parts... to say the least. -

Hmm, polo is going to be interesting on that...
If I did win one, I'll donate it towards another loaner bike for beginners.

i take it that we are not held accountable for any damage to the bikes?

Just what you need, another crate to play polo on!
For those who haven't seen the create thread:

It's a great read. -

I think it's a lame idea, why use bike polo for this? your bikes aren't designed for polo, and I guarantee that something will break on them, they are cheap, probably have awful wheels, and bad handling for polo. And no doubt, they don't have very good brakes either.

Good point, that would be a deal breaker.

Before things get out of control on this thread, possibly scaring off other, better sponsors, can those people interested in doing this pm the OP, and those who aren't interested try and refrain from slagging.

Before I refrain can I do those pointy arrow thingys, Andy?
Pleeeease? -

no polo.....

nologo - nopolo?

I didm't mean for you to delete your posts Ed. Everything said so far was pretty reasonable, but these things can get unreasonable fairly quickly.

I know Andy but after reading what you said I realised I wasn't really being too useful (especially when thinking about future sponsors). I only really focussed on the negatives which isn't very productive*.
new official statement from moog headquarters:
Hi nologobikes, thank you for the offer but this probably isn't the best way for you to promote your bike. If players need to use your bike for the tournament/show case the standard of play will be quite low as your bikes are not designed for polo. If you wish to support polo and develop your bike design a better strategy may be to sponsor one team or a few players who could give you feedback and work with you to create a successful design. Alternatively if you just want to supply some prizes for a tournament I'm sure that would be appreciated too, you would need to talk to specific tournament organisers to find out if they are interested/work out details.

when you say the winners win one each? Do they win new ones?
Or do they win the ones which have been used in your event? with their inevitable buckled wheels dented frames bent cranks etc.?
