  • So its the end of the year of the Tiger and the beginning of the year of the Rabbit, which of course is special to me in that it is my birth year (I was born in Hong Kong- I like to keep a little connection, even if its so very minor).

So Go out, use it as an excuse to celebrate, have a lovely hotpot and some Dim Sum, and Enjoy the new year.

You could even take it seriously:

so yep, Gung hei fat choi!

    And Much love.

  • clean yer house tonight folks! no good doing it tomorrow, you'll sweep away all the good fairies.

  • ^ what he said.

  • oh and don't wash your hair either.

/fancies some char siu buns now. anyone know how to make em?

  • here you go:

if you manage it you're my hero.

  • /goes down to chinatown instead.

  • /goes down to chinatown instead.

This place does some nice ones.

  • Right I've set myself a challenge to make some this weekend...
hopefully I'll find some time to do it.

  • is that the place where the two girls stand outside and say uncharitable things about their customers to each other in cantonese? they can say what they like. buns be good.

  • Actually cleaned the house last night. Strange habits...
    Noodle day you say?!

  • looking to get some good dim sum in, some sort of wonton's as well, some char sui beef. God motuh is watering just thinking about it.

jaw that map is confusing me, need to know where does good/great dim sum at reasonable prices?

  • all dim sum is pretty reasonably priced, if you're coughing up blood/more than 20 dorrah for two, yer doing it wrong.

top of the town in chinatown is pretty good - make sure you order their fried dough cheung fun, it's like pudding but it isn't. surly staff tho.

peninsula chinese restaurant in greenwich is awesome, bit of a trek tho.

royal china on baker street is solid too.

NEVER eat dim sum anywhere that advertises the fact that it serves dim sum all day. 12 til 3 and thats it.

Ping Pong can just fuck off. tho probably the only place you'll get a table between now and the end of next week. chinese new year in chinese restaurants is keeelazy!

    That's the one catfood.

  • so whats that one called where the girls stand outside?

catfood, will put my hunger for dim sum to one side for the next week and avail of someplace you recommend the following week..

is that 12-3 everyday of just on the weekend?

  • nah everyday. thing is, the all day everyday joints seldom have fresh ingredients and pay little attention to detail. the time when they're not serving is the time the kitchen spends preparing the next days dim sum.

the two girls selling buns have a wee stall on newport court, east end of chinatown. get a bubble tea to wash it down afterwards. fucking love bubble tea.

  • Rappy new rear

    /racist

  • We're having a baby tomorrow, need some rabbit influenced names.

  • jessica?

  • Thumper ftw

  • Roger

  • so whats that one called where the girls stand outside?

China Town Market? on Newport Place. Good for char siu buns.
I've had good dim sum at Royal China like catfood has mentioned before and New World on Gerrard Place is also good value.

  • Dillon and Harvey btw! Wouldn't want to call your little one Thumper, would you?

  • jaw/catfood, thanks will investigate week after next.

Got to say one thing I'm missing after coming back from south east asia, are the food courts, so much great food, so little time...

  • I cleaned my bike tuesday! Room still a mess though...

It seems like the tail of the tiger was pretty bad for cyclists on the roads, loads of aggro and injuries and far too many deaths in the news. Really hoping the fluffy bunny brings some calm.

Happy new year everyone, have a most excellent one.

  • None of the utterly delicious and moreish peanut cookies which my colleague brings to work this time each year, all sold out apparently. Tub of them, they're too good...
