  • Just curious why more people in LDN dont play polo. I see a lot of people around on fixies and ss's, but there doesnt seem to be anywhere near the same amount of people that I would imaging playing it, or even coming along now and again to try it out.

    ?

Explain to the thick paddy, please...

  • No polo, no talk

  • Because polo is retarded and polo players are all wankers.

    ...oh wait....

  • (BTW I'm also hoping to organise / maintain the beginners sessions in Peckham as run by Wicksie after she emigrates, but maybe not on a weekly basis..)

  • No, hold on...

  • played. got the spokecard in 2008, I was shit, stopped playing.
too much probabilty of me maiming myself or someone else.
(I twice at least over ran the goal areas, and ended up at least once inside the wheel of someone on the sidelines.)

My teammates that day.... now are legends...

  • i couldn't think of anything worse to do with my time apart from perhaps shopping or digging the garden.
i'm glad that it exists and it's been resurrected by people on the forum though as people obviously enjoy it.

" I see a lot of people around on fixies and ss's, but there doesnt seem to be anywhere near the same amount of people that I would imaging playing it".

i see a lot of people wearing trainers and blue and white synthetic sportswear, doesn't mean they partake in any sport though.

  • I'd quite like to give it a go, but 1) I aint got the time. 2) I don't want to fuck my bike. and 3) it's pretty confusing how to get started playing.

  • EEI has the polo forum on ignore, and will not be happy seeing it in general

  • polo lol

Sorry, should have qualified that (although it would be a bit overkill in a poll question). From other cities of moderate size with a fgss "scene" (cough), there seems to be a much higher participation of polo amongst said fgss riders in comparison to LDN.

Cant someone just post one of those "meme" things that says "deal with it" ?

  • I've nearly started a few times but every time I go to watch/take photos etc I am reminded why I haven't... I used to be pretty involved with Roller Derby in the States, it's a great laugh and great people but a huge clusterfuck when it comes to internal politics and egos, although the B'ham polo scene really isn't bad at all that way it just reminds me of derby so there you go.
Plus, I'm really fucking old now, I get my shits and grins doing mellow stuff.

You haven't met Bill have you?

  • There's an older player than me here in B'ham, but he's not me and I'm not him... I think a big part of the age gap thing too is it's kind of weird hanging out with a crowd that's 90% early 20s, like Roller Derby was.

    I like knitting now, punk-knitting

  • I like the idea of polo and wouldnt say that I'm intimidated by the regulars as I don't know any of them but an exhibition day or something for the ditherers would go a long way to tempting me onboard.

  • I'd have a go, but its just going for the first time issues, that and the fear of hurting myself or others through ineptitude.

  • On a serious note, I was chatting to Wicksie about starting/ learning polo.

But my missus raped me for a third child last year and have been too busy
looking after the lot of them since :(

Might hopefuly find some time this summer to give it a go!

  • Is this some kind of Irish reverse psychology experiment?

Actually thats one of the nice things about the London scene is there really is quite a decent spread in the age group from 18 and under through the 40's and older (if im not mistaken, in the beginners sessions at least)

  • I dont play for many long winded, ever changing reasons

    love you =)

  • Try being old... Trust me, it sucks...
