For Sale: Raleigh Royal 531 Tourer

Bought this with the intention of using it myself but haven't had any time in the last few months to do anything with it. Without spending too much more this could be a rather nice tourer.

Raleigh Royal Butted 531 frame & forks 56 cm ctc

Maillard hubs, Weinmann rims
SR seatpost, stem, handlebars
Sachs gearing
Weinmann brakes/levers.

Frame is in very good condition the worst part being the rust spots on the chrome forks. No saddle or crankset but do have some nice Raleigh panto dustcaps and MKS touring pedals to go with it!

Agreed. Am pretty gutted to be selling it as they don't come up that often.

A friend of mine might want this - have just emailed him. Couple of questions - how long's the top tube? is it 700c or 27" wheels?

Top tube is 57 cm ctc and it takes 27" wheels.

I've got one of these, slightly later version though, the're great bikes. Here's mine to show what they look like built up:

Mine is a 62cm frame though. I got it respaced to 700c, the brake drop isn't that bad at all.
I know Edscoble wants one of these but i think this will be too small for him.
Whoever buys this won't be disapointed.

Lovely bike spotter. Quick question though, I've got the same bartape and am about to invest in the same saddle. Is it my imagination or does brooks brown bar tape not match 100% with brooks brown saddle?

You're right they don't quite match, in fact i was a little disappointed with the tape, i wasn't expecting it to be one piece but i was expecting the joint to brake when i was taping the bars, it was a pretty weak join.

Yeah, have the tape on but still haven't used it yet. Looks nice though. That's pretty weak on brooks part to not have matching 'brown' colours, although I've heard using a little black shoe polish on the tape makes it a nice deeper brown.
