It's not hard to be controversial in the US, the media and one side of the general public are literally hunting for things to be outraged by on a daily basis, it reinforces their holier-than-thou morals to themselves if they think things are 'bad', kind of like the Daily Mail subhumans here.
Gervais is an intelligent writer, but his smile makes me want to hit him with a shitty stick. -

He was great - imagine what Russell Brand would have done with the opportunity then give thanks that we have someone like Gervais

Yeah brilliant.
He probably won't be working in Hollywood for a while though
These stars don't have much of a sense of humour when it comes to things like that -

jumped up pricks
tom cruise and all his mob
it's like a modern day mafia
you don't work in hollywood unless you join the cult and give tom all your money
either him or john travolta -

I'm on the fence with Gervais generally - I really don't know how to take him most of the time - but I truly admire him for this.
A*
I really could take or leave Ricky Gervais, mainly leave to be honest, but after his performance as host at the Golden Globes I just love him to bits for rattling the cages of the Hollywood aristocracy.
