Video:
500d uses rubbish non-standard frame rates - it's video is deliberately hamstrung to keep it in it's place (in Canon's hierarchy). 20fps @ 1080p is useless if you ever hope to do anything even vaguely serious - the other two resolutions (720p and 640x480) are basically NTSC - and not even correct NTSC - so also problematic if you hope to do semi-serious stuff (although not as problematic as 20fps).
550d = brilliant, the full range of broadcast standard frame rates, it even has 50fps (for over-cranking / slow motion).
Video-wise absolutely no comparison.
Evening all
I know some of you here are keen photographers, so I come seeking advice.
tl;dr 500d or 550d, worth the extra money?
Info:
i'm both a media and photography student who can't afford a still camera and a movie camera, so i figure i kill two birds with one stone. The reason i'm sticking with Canon over Nikon or Pentax etc, is that most of my mates have all canon kit so (most importantly) i can 'borrow' a rather nice range of lenses, as much as I lust over Nikon's offerings.
Wherever I search, whoever I ask, no one can give me a decisive answer so, forumners, I ask you. Is the 550d worth the price jump, or would the 500d serve me well?
