  • I thought i'd start a new thread - that may serve as a kind of Yellow Pages....

I have need for a Camera shop, and a recommended one at that!

I have acquired a beautiful Olympus OM4 35mm SLR camera with a good few lenses, but it needs a trained eye to help me sort out a continual error with the mirror (that keeps sticking).

Anyone know of a camera place that specialises in 35mm SLR's? Both Jacobs and Jessops didnt seem to be able to help (surprise, surprise) so can anyone here help? I have some amazing kit that i'd like to utilise!! Cheers in advance.

  • Ace. I've got an OM10 that i'm planning on using more this year, got new batteries for it today. I don't know any good camera shops though, but they must be here. Perhaps ask in Palm Labs on Rea Street and see if they know anyone?

  • Try Calumet on Hagley Rd, I can't vouch for them as I'm 100% Digital (& Hipstamatic) now but they sell 35mm cameras and film on their website still which is a start.
My mom's husband is a camera dude, he's in one of those clubs, he'll know so I'll ask him tomorrow.

...and paging Pastry, he might know.

  • Calumet it is then as my first port of call. Nice work Void.

  • I know a better camera repair place than calumet, I had to get a lens repaired recently and calumet werent to confident about doing it and also charged for an estimate.

This other independent place did free estimate, and repaired for less than half of the going rate for the type of repair. He also replaced the iris for FREE and was open to bartering. I forget the details, will dig them out for you though.

  • i guess i'll put this here as its a service I'm after...does anyone have a key to the private park in moseley? PM me. thanks

  • I know how to get one if thats any help??
    Any gardners on here?

  • I can do most gardening stuff, ive done it as a job in the past.

I own a good petrol hedgecutter, spades etc. Have a decent knowledge of plant care (especially fruit trees/vegetables).

    Dont have a car though.

  • Anyone got links a good plumber that's reasonably cheap, but thorough?

Plant care is not essential as I think they are all dead!
What time of year is best to start working on the garden, Bassicly I need what appears to be a mass of weeds removed from the bottom of the garden as I have not a clue, I could arrange you and your tools to be picked up but you might wanna pop round and have a look first?

  • As we're talking services in Birmingham, I'm partial to St Nicholas on KN green, the eve services (though avoid evensong) - though I also found the Quaker service in Cotteridge pretty good.

  • ^helpful

...if you believe in sky wizards

Yeah I could do this no problem.

Now is a perfect time to get cracking. The ground is soft and easy to dig. If it gets colder again, bits of uprooted weeds will get an extra blast of cold (and hopefully die) plus the freeze-thaw effect will break up the clumps of soil into a fine tilth which is great for any re-planting you might want to do.

    that would be very helpful.

  • does anyone have any experience in wheel building? i'm looking for an alternative to going to a LBS (although i will be getting the parts from there) or attempting it myself and doing a terrible job

  • What kind of wheel is it?

If its a symmetrical wheel, like a front or a flip-flop rear. I might be up for it.

  • yeah man if you remember our somewhat brief meeting at canon hill i'm in need of a 27inch fixed wheel, rear with a flip-flop hub

  • I actually have an 27" wheel with flip-flop hub. fixed/fixed with a 3/32 sprocket on one side and a 1/8 sprocket on the other.

It needs a replacement axle as the threads got stripped. You can buy it off me as is, or wait till I might eventually fix it.

  • either option sounds good to me, i will pm you

  • Hey Neddos, check out the sheldon brown page.
I work at the Birmingham Bike Foundry; we do a wheel building course for £50, we also do 'tool club' on thursday nights where you can use our equipment (inc. truing stand) membership is £10 for the whole year.

@dfp - we can get new 27'' alloy wheel for £30 if you want one for your red bike.

  • thanks hyper allah i did have a look at that page before but thought it looked pretty complicated. i think i'm sorted for the time being but one day i will have a go. the tool club sounds really useful anyway though as i've got a few things i've been meaning to sort out but i lack the necessary tools so i will pop in soon.

  • Does anyone know if i can take my bike on the metro?

  • No you can't. Unless it folds.

  • I have a folding bike you could borrow but it is very lulz.

  • Thats fine, i'm only going up to West Brom this morning, but i wanted to ride back. Thanks folks.
