So when are we doing the beginner taster day?
Shall I set up a facebook event for Sunday 18th April? Then we can tell people about it at CM

• #1828
The 18th must be a Weds as my birthday is a Tuesday this year! Sundays are the 15th or 22nd that week...

sorry I meant Sunday18th March, couple of weeks time

I reckon after the Bench Minor - we should be practicing lineups and stuff between now and then.
April 8th? Soon after Critical Mass, soon after the clocks go forward and everyone gets a burst of energy/joie de vivre, soon after the Bench Minor so people will presumably be on that post-tournament high. Plenty of time to spread the word...

any recomendations of a good 48h hub set thats reasonably priced?
much love Asim

Justy hubs or whole wheels? For polo? I'd see if Varno still has that other set of 48s.

Complete Halo builds like MGs are by far the most economical. 48 hubs are expensive unless you get piece-of-shit quandos or 'vintage' tandem things. Cartridge bearings are a very wise investment, and don't cost *that *much more.
If for some perverse reason I was ever looking for some cup n cone hubs/wheels, I'd demand that the person/shop I bought them from supplied me with a complete set of bearings, cones, axles and hub races if applicable. If everyone did the same, shit hubs would only be found on BSOs and high-end road/track bikes, as they should be, because finding suitable bits is FUCKING HARD WORK!

i agree! how much are halos though?
-
• #1835
I bought the Halos because they ended up working out cheaper than building a set up (my original plan) and were easier for me to maintain. I've had good and bad experiences with Quandos in the past, my old ones were fine but my rear Steamroller one needs frequent attention and I'll probably build a new wheelset in a month or so when I get the frame overhauled. I'd check out BMX hubs first as you might get a bargain on eBay. Seriously though, I only got 48h because I like to goal keep and my front wheel especially kept getting battered and needed truing all the time. 36h with wheelcovers should be more than adequate for polo.

My set ended up about £80 I think (one new discounted, one secondhand). You can usually pick up as good as new sets for about £120 because people buy them for trick bikes then realise they can't do tricks...

Maybe for you, but Asim is probably two yous.
My experience with 48s wasn't great - I don't think they were much stronger than my old 32 deep-ish Vs. My front one got badly bent on the first game, and my rear one required frequent truing, but I have high standards when it comes to wheel straightness, and at least with 48s they respond well to adjustments.
26" is the way*
*I think.

I'm still using a 26" front wheel old school Mavic, missing spokes and its as tough as an old pair of boots!!
Like your new frame Dan, felt a lot like mine in some respects. Welding looks ok too, no visible defects as i pointed out like undercut blah blah and neat enough. Not like you'll be wanting it x rayed anyway!!..bargain for a custom bespoke frame.

Just checked the blog stats - not many people looking today, so maybe people will pick up their flyers when they're hungover tomorrow. Monday, when the images were posted here, was pretty good.
It would be good to get some more content up there.
I'm going to do a write up of my bike, explaining why it's evidently made me worse, before next weekend.
MG - Helles Belles?
N3il - bike checks?Someone else - how/why you started playing?

Anyone want to do an extra polo session Wednesday or Thursday (assuming it's switched to Tuesdays now?) to help give me a little more practise for Bristol? I'll be back in Brum on Tuesday night but too late to catch any polo.

I want to go to Brighton, are we doing it based on seeding? I see iLL PIGS registered so MG/EMM/4ndy? Dan if you're off too can we get a 3rd?
-
• #1846
Dan's off too but he's in a team with Joni and Bogey from down south. I think Fin was looking for team-mates though?

Sorry Lucas, it filled up already I think. You are the first victim of the New Polo Order of free-for-all team formation.

Good work. Just make sure your front is functional.
Yeah, nice!
