Does this look any good?

  • Hi all,

i've just moved over to oz and i'm looking to buy my first single speed.

As I don't have any tools, then I am looking for one that's already made and came across this one.

can you let me know if it's any good or not?

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250748463093&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123#ht_1269wt_1139

it's up for $500, which is about £300 at the moment, so didn't know if it's decent value or not.

any advice would be great. thanks.

  • Visp get mixed reviews but it seems a decent build to me. If you can get it for the current minimum bid or there abouts you'll be onto a winner I think.

  • tel, thanks for the advice, he does want $750 for it, but i'll just wait till the end of the auction and see.. nobody has bid yet and i'm not in a mad rush, I do understand that they ain't the best made frames, but thought that it had the right look to it, I just didn't want to buy something that will rattle to bits or will break all the time..

if anyone else has ridden the visp frame then there comments would be appreciated.

    cheers.

  • Are you in Aus or the UK, chubbs?

  • i'm in oz, just got here a couple of days ago.

  • Ah, ok....

Sumo on here has one, if I recall.

  • thanks for letting me know, i'll pm him and ask an opinion on it. cheers.

  • Looks pretty decent for 300, wouldn't pay much more though, do they have things like Fuji tracks or giant viewers over there?

  • WTF: Retro look, ultra modern, custom built single speed - fixed gear - fixie.
Starting life as just a collection of new parts looking for a way to be cool. Fitting together to be the sleek black beast you see here, clean, simple lines - elegant yet aggressive

    Really?!?

  • That's just how they talk down there, they're all like perma-drunk

  • Ah, ok....

Sumo on here has one, if I recall.

yup, and I can tell you that is one of the new Visp frames because of the cable guides.
I've ridden mine since May this year and it's been faultless. Haven't even dented it. Quite light too if you replace the forks to something without a steel steerer.
I'd really recommend you get some tools though, even if it's not for building the bike but just for repairs.

  • Also bear in mind, chubbs, that a KHS flite 100 retails here for $999. Id struggle to spend $750 on a used Visp when I could get a new flite for not too much more.

  • with the flite you would get a shop warranty too.

  • and no germs.

  • nice one, i do like the look of this, but upon closer inspection of his ebay feedback, it would appear that he's bought all the parts from this account, and it's all listed with full contact details on there, so I reckon my small investment into some tools till my toolbox does come from the UK will save me a fair few dollars..

    frame $140
    wheels $100
    seat $15
    crankset, chain $50
    handlebars $18
    stem $40
    front brake $50
    tyres $40
    pedals and clips $20

so i make that about $470 and i can maybe change a few things on there to suit?

Is there anything else that i'd need or is that it? seems that the wheels are complete when you buy them off ebay here, similar to the ones being sold on here, 40mm deep v section, but there $80.00 + postage here.. at last something cheaper than in the UK..

will i need a lot of tools? suppose just order it and then buy the tools to suit, unless anyone know's off hand?

  • Just one gear on my fixie bike!
No really, it looks good. Assuming the seller put some work into this bike, you're getting a decent deal. On the other hand if you'd have fun putting a bike together yourself, there's no need to buy this.

  • Looks a super machine

  • Also bear in mind, chubbs, that a KHS flite 100 retails here for $999. Id struggle to spend $750 on a used Visp when I could get a new flite for not too much more.

Never heard of these, but they look pretty good. £500 in the UK.

  • Look at the 2002 khs flite better geo, sugino 75 as standard and weep at the price tag.

  • It's crap, just like the Create bikes.

  • Personally I hate the look of it, but each to their own tastes.
Why not just buy some tools (you're going to need them anyway) and build up your own from second hand parts. You'll end up with what you want and have the feeling of accomplishment as well as the knowledge you'll need to maintain it.

If you're happy with that though, just get it :)
