  • I appreciate that this is a little time off but we do need an appropriate ride to celebrate the coming republic.

Any suggestions would be welcome. It could be a ride around important historical anti monarchist sites or a ride away from all the bs surrounding the nuptuals of a minor royal. Ideas please but we do need to do something to get away from the crap.

  • Your jealousy will get you nowhere.

Did the Sex Pistols not do a song about you, "I want to be Monarchy"?

  • James, stop being such a Queen.

  • This needs to be a 100 mile moderately hilly ride for Clive to do with people who are going just slightly quicker than he is comfortable with, but not too much.

  • Again, jealousy will get you nowhere, just because "I want to ride my bicycle".

  • Tyburns triple tree to remember Ollie Cromwell.

  • Sorry for acting like a colonial outpost, but what are you referring to? I need some context?

Is the UK becoming a replublic? What is going on?

  • I think Ill Will is getting married then.

  • It has to take in Runnymede.

This sounds like a good way to avoid the nonsense.

    Surrey Hills anyone?

  • It has to take in Runnymede.

A ride to Runnymede is always a pleasure but may not be hilly enough for my coach

Just sign Clive up for the next bridges ride, it will feel like a 100 miles to him and probably at a pace he is not comfortable with.

  • Erm, Republic of Ireland ride? http://www.lfgss.com/thread55740.html

  • St george's hill - the diggers

NOT Cromwell please, the man was an abomination. I don't subscribe to the notion that my enemy's enemies are ergo my friends.

Wat Tyler was assassinated outside the city walls somewhere near Aldersgate...

  • Also there's got to be some great places of TU history around London...

  • Btw Clive this is a Super Duper idea... Reps.

  • Tyburns triple tree to remember Ollie Cromwell.

Oh shite did I miss Digger's irony here?

  • St George's Hill and Runnymede sound good.

    Start Smithfield.

middleofnowhere, Guiness and frequent stops in pubs are not part of my stringent training plan. The Irish Republic is a wonderful thing but we have to look towards an English or British Republic or, better still, a non national republic based upon a diminution in state and giving power back to the people. A true repulic rather than one in which the President merely assumes the powers grasped by kings.

    James, be quiet.

  • Also there's got to be some great places of TU history around London...

Bow for the Bryant and May factory and the matchworkers strike.

    Cable Street.

India House in Highgate for anti colonialism

    Highgate for Marx

Didn't Emma Goldman live in London at some stage?

  • Umm St George's hill isn't in London - I was being silly.. Maybe somewhere in Surrey, or perhaps Hampshshire. Not really doable.

  • Suffrage campaigners perhaps ought to be commemorated.

  • James, be quiet.

Its good to be back, trying to resist the pun about being aloud on here.

  • Runneymede is close to St George's Hill. If I have to do a 100 mile ride that day, as my coach suggests, could include them and some London sites. It would mean avoiding all the nonsense.

Last "royal" wedding, in 1982, they were selling go anywhere on the tube tickets for the first time. I bought one and spent the day visiting places such as Ongar and Richmond, Morden etc etc. Missed it all. They then got divvorced.

  • Its good to be back, trying to resist the pun about being aloud on here.

    Come the revolution....

  • I will make some noise...
