  • Anyone got any knowledge in the Job Seekers Allowance area?
My partner's claim has been stopped, because she couldn't attend the sign in due to being stuck out of London. She spoke to someone about giving proof that she was out of London and the lady said that it’s not necessary to give proof. Now they have made the decision that her reason for not attending is not good enough! What the hell? Stopping the claim a week before Christmas is not right. Now she can’t afford to get anything.

  • they are c*nts. tell her to go down to her jobcentre and kick up a fuss

  • They like to stop peoples JSA unfairly as it helps with the government targets they have to reach for the amount of people off benefits per week. (as my JSA adviser told me when someone 'accidentally' cancelled my claim by pressing the wrong button)

I would call up and go to the job centre, she can dispute their decision- and they can do an emergency payment but they don't like to.

    good luck

I had a similar problem earlier this month. Was stuck in Sussex cos of the snow.
However I called them the day before of my sign on, explained what happened, and managed to sign on at the local jobcentre there and had my papers faxed to my main one.
I was let off cos I don't make a habit of missing any jobcentre appointments, but they can cancel your JSA, as if you read the little book/paper that comes with the sign on book, it says you have to contact them even if you're only out of London for a day, their reasoning is being that you're not actively looking for a job unless you can prove you're looking for a job outside of London, which I also was able to prove I was.

Soooo, she has to call them, dispute their decision or call the Belfast main office and talk with them.

(For the record, I think it's bullshit you have to tell them youre out of london even if it's on the fucking weekend, so I never tell them I'm out.)

  • Well, it seems like that they are going to re-open the claim. Why they even needed to close it in the first place, I don't know. Stupid really...

Just happy that it's not going to get terminated.
