My aperture is busted, repair or replace?

The aperture on my 28mm lens for my Pentax K1000, has decided to stop working. It won't open or close, It's not stuck or jammed, it just doesn't seem to engage when I try to adjust the f stops, it just stays wide open. Is it worth trying to repair it, or will it be cheaper to to try and buy another 28mm? If it's worth repairing does anyone have suggestions as to where I could take it?

How much does a replacement lens cost? I'd be more inclined, as a non photography person but someone with experience of "fiddly stuff", to buy a replacement.

have you got insurance? I'm currently claiming a lens on mine. Also you can send it off just to get a quote without having to commit to a repair.
for repairs take it to a good local camera shop who will probably just send it off to pentax anyway
