  • I'm wondering if anyone's got any recommendations of a fork which would suit my requirements.

    -1 1/8th steerer.
    -Clearance for 700x32 tyres minimum.
    -Straight legs.
    -Cantilever brake mounts.
    -Not a huge slack rake.

Something like a Cotic Roadrat fork. It'll be for an On One Pompino frame.

Alternatively if anyone's got one spare for sale... PM me...

    Max

  • you getting a pompino then?

  • Yeah

  • Why not go for disc brakes?

  • Good question James.

I don't really need them. I guess its a combination of sticking to what I know and keeping it simple and (slightly) cheaper. It'll be a work bike, not a weekend warrior affair.

  • Henry, I'm after something straight and more 'industrial' looking. Hard to explain it.
Also the Pompino fork pushes the front wheel out loads, which is something I don't want with the already long wheelbase of the XL frame.

The Exotic fork is NICE! If I can't find anything steel it'll be one of my first choices for carbon.

  • doubt you'd notice it much, in london.
    just saying- i wouldn't.

    or try:

  • I was admiring Seb bycaboy's bike on Friday. Orlowski custom made lo pro with disc brake on the front.

    Awesome little stealth bike.

  • So what's wrong with the geared bike? Or has your attention span been exceeded.

Did you ever make it onto the track this year?

I'd like to keep it as straight as I can at the front to negate the otherwise heavy handling of a biggish tyre on a slack fork.

Realized I only use one gear, want a CX bike or similar and still in love with the novelty of coasting.

  • or for cabron bling:

A guy I worked with got them (but in the 26" versions) and apparently they were rubbish. Unbelievably flexible, he told me he could almost get the the wheel to touch the down tube there was so much give.

  • Cheers for the heads up, Spotter

  • The Niner carbon forks are meant to be pretty good, but they're not cheap at all.

also very resistant if you crash into a pile of hammers...

they also make straight steel ones too

  • So do you want a 700c 'cross fork or a 29er mtb fork fork?
    -29er, go for the Exotic
    -700c 'cross fork, EC90 X

  • Either.

I want strength over anything else.
Obviously including the right clearance & canti mounts for a 700c rim.

  • Exotic forks are available with adjustable canti mounts however personally I think they'd look silly on a road bike, EC90 X would be my personal choice and are highly unlikely to break.

  • It's for a Pompino so it'll be more a SS cross bike at first.
I'll be using the biggest tyres I can fit.
I might decide to use risers at some point with Avid levers.
It's not a race bike basically, just a bike for delivering crap on.

  • 29er forks will be too long. usually suspension corrected and or course for a much bigger tyre go with a cross fork.

  • Fitting big tyres to a Pompino is not as easy as it should be as the clearance on the rear is too tight (or was on the one I had). I had to have the axle right at the back of the dropout but a widish cross tyre still rubs on the chain stays as they don't appear to be designed for big tyres.

  • I've used 2 different types of cx tyre on the pompino (panaracer cindercross 35mm and michelin cross 30mm something) and both fitted with room to spare without having to run the axle at the end of the dropout. That said, I wouldn't want to use CX tyres for long on the road as they are sluggish.

  • Cx tyres are small compared to 29er tyres which it appears he may wish to be using if he is getting a 29er fork

Traxfactor buy a proper ss 29er and stick big apples on it.

I have some and have never experienced this.

Doesn't say much for the consistency as mine definitely wouldn't take a 35c cross tyre and was one of the reasons I sold it.

Maybe his pair had a fault then, could have been just unlucky
